Mr Darren F. Lui

Mr Darren F. Lui is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in both paediatric and adult spinal surgery. He holds a specialist interest in adolescent and paediatric surgeries for spinal deformities including scoliosis and kyphosis, and holds additional expertise in non-surgical management of these conditions. He is also interested in spinal oncology and treating metastases of the spine, through both radical excision and minimally invasive solutions where possible. He has extensive operative experience in various procedures including oligo-metastatic spinal surgery, lumbar disc replacement, robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, neck surgery, as well as radiofrequency ablation, fusion techniques and spinal revisions and kyphoplasty.

Mr Lui gained his degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2001, and holds an additional Master’s degree in Surgery. During his training, he completed various fellowships in spinal surgery in Ireland, London and Hong Kong. He has been a consultant since 2016 and has gained extensive operative experience throughout his career. This includes experience in a Level 1 Trauma Centre, where he gained experience managing severe polytrauma and spinal fractures.

Mr Lui has contributed extensively to clinical research in his field, and regularly published his work in peer-reviewed journals. He has helped to pioneer new surgical techniques and has won multiple awards and prizes for his research work throughout his career. He has presented his work extensively at conferences and has over 70 peer-reviewed publications in his name. Additionally, he is passionate about medical education, and has contributed to over 10 medical books. He teaches regularly and holds a position as an Honorary Senior Lecturer.
