I didn’t leave feeling as though my health issue was any further forward in being diagnosed or treated. I was told I had an enlarged artery and a second opinion would be required - creases chance of stroke. This was several months ago and heard nothing despite asking twice by email what the follow up was. I waited several months for the appointment in the first place, delayed because the referral had been ‘forgotten about’.

After a warning from the neurosurgeon & oncologist who had been monitoring the regrowth of my meningioma in September 2023 that it required surgery & as it was a second operation it was at high risk of stroke, bleeding, bone infection, going through old scar tissue, the tumour was pressing against a large vein. My daughter suggested I sought a second opinion, we chose Mr Shoakazemi who also specialises in my type of brain tumour.  He confirmed…the risks were very high indeed, the brain tumour had grown too big for fractionated radiotherapy and surgery through the old wound of some 20 + years ago was the only option. We found Mr Shoakazemi to be extremely approachable, professional, calm, warm & informative.  I feel incredibly lucky to have had the faith on a date said to be the unluckiest day in the yearly calendar …Friday 13th October to undergo surgery with such a gifted neurosurgeon. I am (thankfully to Mr Shoakazemi) walking straight, talking straight & feeling fully blessed.

Mr Parnham was extremely attentive to ensuring that I understood the care I was receiving and ensured he was accessible at all times for any further questions.

Dr Aylwin has run a very comprehensive screening on my health, he's listened to all my concerns, and family history, and didn't leave any room for guessing, requesting not only the screenings he considered a must, but also the ones which, once done, would put me at ease that, due to family history, we're not leaving any stones unturned and would be made aware of any health conditions, and take on the treatment needed, sooner rather than later.
