Bad breath or halitosis is considered to be a social taboo.  People are often stigmatized leading to embarrassment impacting the life of the individual and their relationships with others.

What causes bad breath?

In the vast majority of cases, bad breath originates in the mouth and may be caused by a variety of factors.

Poor oral hygiene is usually the main cause. As bacteria builds up in the mouth they release certain gases which creates the bad breath.  Gum disease also leads to halitosis.

In addition, dry mouth, eating strongly flavoured foods, crash dieting, low-carbohydrate diets,  drinking alcohol and smoking can also lead to bad breath.

It can also occur after infection, disease, illness and/or if you are on certain medications.

At your first appointment at Lister House Dental Clinic, our expert dental team will investigate and diagnose the cause of your bad breath.  We will provide a tailored made treatment plan in order to eradicate your bad breath and instilling your confidence once again.
