About

Dr James Rakshi has been a consultant neurologist for 20 years and has extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic neurological problems. He treats all general neurology problems as well as dementia, dizziness, epilepsy, headache, head injury, multiple sclerosis, neck and back problems, Parkinson's, sleep problems, stroke, and sensory disturbance.

Dr Rakshi earned his medical degree in 1988 from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He became interested in neurology and brain imaging whilst working in the Neurology and Neurosurgical unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where the first clinical MRI brain scanner was built. Dr Rakshi studied general medicine for over four years before specialising in neurology, which allows him to approach neurology in a more holistic way. His neurology training was undertaken at various prominent London hospitals, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where he later became an Honorary Consultant. Additionally, he has worked in many of London's district general hospitals and has run an advanced multiple sclerosis centre.

Each patient's symptoms manifest in a unique way, and Dr Rakshi uses a variety of techniques to better assess and treat his patients. He understands the importance of taking the time to listen to his patients and their families, as well as having an open mind when evaluating the more critical and urgent diagnoses; sometimes an inadvertent statement from the patient or family can offer a vital clue that leads to a diagnosis.

Dr Rakshi is known for clearly explaining the patient's neurological condition and how best to treat it. He is also frequently asked to provide a second opinion. He prides himself on arranging investigations in a timely manner and providing detailed reports that are easy to understand. Dr Rakshi's overall approach is straightforward: treat every patient the same way you would want to be treated yourself.

I saw Dr James Rakshi following post viral Covid symptoms which had a neurological impact. After the initial consultation and following an MRI scan Dr Rakshi was able to explain the diagnosis with ease and break it down without complexity. I felt at ease with his down to earth bedside manner. Highly recommended.

I have nothing but good things to say about James Rakshi. I first saw James in 2021 following a spate of ongoing headaches and was recently referred back to him by a back specialist for some expert advice. James had a really kind and down to earth bedside manner. He's so knowledgeable and keeps you informed every step of the way. He was extremely thorough without going over the top and I felt calm and reassured especially when potentially dealing with life changing illnesses. I found James very open and easy to talk to and I know when I see him again I am in safe hands.

I visited Dr James Rakshi following post-viral symptoms and low blood pressure which had left me bed ridden for a long time and I could not recommend him enough. His standard of care is excellent, and he goes beyond and above to investigate and get to the root of the problem. He is extremely knowledgeable and most importantly is always able to explain and break complex information easily. He kept me well informed regularly and articulated different options that I had to move forward in my recovery. He took time to listen, and his kind and compassionate care has made me feel safe and well looked after.

I was referred to Dr Rakshi for a second opinion regarding unusual symptoms in my feet and lower legs. He was very approachable from the outset, listened to me patiently and explained everything clearly. He never rushed through an appointment, he was reassuring, and requested diagnostic tests to rule out certain conditions. Once this was done, he was able to provide a diagnosis and prescribed some medication to ease the symptoms as far as possible. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to him again should the need arise.

Dr Rakshi took over my very complicated case (I have veinous sinus thrombosis and antiphospholipid syndrome) at the beginning of the year. At the time I was very lost and didnt know what was going on with me. After a through and relevant investigation he came up with a plan that involved meeting various specialists before deciding on the treatment. He guided me through all my appointments and met me after each appointment to explain what was going on. I have now finally come to a point where I know exactly what it means to have veinous thrombosis and antiphospholipid syndrome and thanks to him know exactly how to manage my symptoms and avoid any future complications. He has been with me every step of the way which made navigating all the specialists so much easier. Professionally, I have found him to be extremely knowledgable and thorough and as person he is very warm and kind. Thank you Dr Rakshi for all your help. You have no idea what it has meant to me.

I was referred to consultant neurologist Dr Rakshi by an ENT consultant with a view to a holistic investigation of ear pain, an imbalance in my hearing and an unexpected MRI result. He took a thorough medical history, listening intently to my experience of the presenting problem, as well to ask after any past and present health, chronic illnesses, and prior acute health problems. This was conducted with humility, kindness, genuine interest and a sense of humor. Further examinations were performed, and a follow-up appointment scheduled where Dr Rakshi explained in full the factors contributing to my symptoms. He has been extremely diligent in following up on a chronic health issue - hypertension - that may impact on future neurological health, for which i am extremely grateful. I very much appreciate the holistic medical approach he takes, and the extremely good-natured friendly manner of the appointments.

We were recommended to Dr Rakshi by a family member, my wife suffered a serious head injury in her teens that left her with epilepsy. She was fine until her 70s when she started having involuntary head ,arm and leg movements when resting. We went to see Dr rakshi, what a charming man, he explained everything to us in a clear and concise way, some tests were done and some of her meds were reduced, what a difference, her involuntary movements have gone and she is much steadier on her feet. We cannot recommend Dr Rakshi more highly.

Having experienced migraines and accompanying curious and frustrating neurological symptoms for many years, I was recently referred to Dr. Rakshi following an atypical episode. It can be hard trying to explain neurological symptoms, but Dr. Rakshi put me at my ease immediately. He listened very carefully whilst letting me set out my circumstances in full and then offered his opinion and explained his proposed next steps extremely clearly. It was a very calming and reassuring consultation. His clinical experience meant that he was able to suggest investigations that until now had not been considered, and for which I am very grateful. The follow-up consultation was equally reassuring and it is clear that patient care and well-being is at the very heart of Dr. Rakshi's practice.

My experience with Dr Rakshi has been excellent so far, and should I require a further appointment I won't hesitate to make one. I had decided to book an appointment with him following a great deal of research, and after finding him to have excellent patient reviews as well as a wealth of knowledge and expertise I was confident I would receive a high standard of care. In my appointment he not only listened but also made me feel truly heard and validated, responded in a very timely manner to my emails, took the time to write a very detailed follow up letter with clear actions, and conveys a genuine desire to get to the root of my complex medical issues.

I have known and worked with James for many years. As a GP I want a consultant to pick the phone up if I call as if I do need to call they will know it is important. James is superb and always on the end of a phone to guide me where needed and see my patients very quickly. We work as a team where I may do the work up, so by time he sees the patient he has what he needs, thus streamlining the patient journey and involving less stress. James is an excellent clinician and well like by his patients. He is one of best neurologists I know and I have no hesitation him giving him a 5* review

James is an excellent neurologist. Cardiology and neurology work jointly on patients with stroke. In addition, there is the patient with dizziness- is it heart or brain? The traffic of patients from him is well analysed and sorted. His letters are clear and informative, leaving no doubt as to his opinion. I have no hesitation in recommending him for a neurology opinion.
