Mr Sacheen Kumar is a consultant in upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, specializing in the treatment of oesophagogastric cancer, GIST tumours, and benign conditions of the GI tract. He is also an honorary clinical senior lecturer at Imperial College London, and a team leader for research on upper GI surgical oncology at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). Mr Kumar qualified as a doctor from Imperial College London before undertaking general surgical training within the Deanery of London. His specialist training in upper GI surgery was then undertaken by Royal Free London, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and University College Hospital London. After completing his training, he spent time learning minimally invasive techniques for treating Upper GI cancer at the National Cancer Centre in Seoul. His postgraduate research focussed on breath analysis for early diagnosis of upper GI cancer; he was awarded his PhD from Imperial College in 2014. Subsequently, he was appointed to the National Institute Health Research Clinical Lecturer Surgery position where recognition of his skillset left him elected to Member status with the Royal Society of Chemistry 2018.
