Professor Maffuli is a consultant orthopaedic and sports injury surgeon. He has pioneered several revolutionary new procedures and techniques in knee surgery and foot and ankle surgery and regularly takes care of elite and professional athletes in many sports including football, rugby and track and field. Professor Maffulli is the Professor of Sports Medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and Professor of Orthopaedics at Keele University School of Medicine. He sees large numbers of Patients with sports injuries of the lower limb, acute and chronic tendon injuries, knee and foot and ankle surgery ailments. He takes care of patients with anterior cruciate ligament surgery and of young athletic patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, foot and ankle.

He has published widely in highly regarded international medical journals and has led several clinical trials in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Professor Maffulli has published 12 books and has won 13 national and international prizes for his work in this specialist area, including the Smith and Nephews Richards Research and Travel Award for the British Orthopaedic Association, 22nd Instructional Course in 1993 for his work on Patterns of meniscal tears in anterior cruciate deficient knees in athletes.
