I feel most reassured and safest when Professor Mokbel is in charge of my care. He has organised my post-operative monitoring very meticulously. The cosmetic result of my recent lumpectomy is so good that there is symmetry with the non-operated side and difficult to tell at first glance which breast had the surgery. Professor Mokbel is an amazing leading expert in breast surgery and also has super-specialist expertise in using the wireless Savi Scout marker to enable more precise removal of tumours. Professor Mokbel explained my situation very clearly and concisely. I initially saw him for a second opinion after being advised somewhere else to undergo major surgery (mastectomy, complete axillary lymph node clearance and reconstruction). But because I’d already had a complete response to chemotherapy, it was actually more appropriate to de-escalate my treatment plan: Professor Mokbel informed me about published evidence that lumpectomyand targeted dissection of 2 axillary lymph nodes followed by radiotherapy was more beneficial in my particular case. I had this surgery as day case and went home the same afternoon. I have a great cosmetic result without need for reconstruction, can move my arm normally and do not have an “elephant arm” (lymphoedema) that would have been high risk with the other, more major surgery. As an added bonus, Professor Mokbel also gave me detailed dietary advice which he has a specialist interest in as well. I am now free of cancer, living a normal life and feel extraordinarily lucky to be under the phenomenal care of Professor Mokbel.
