About

Professor Greg Shaw is a London-based Urological Surgeon consultant. He graduated from St Bartholomew's Medical College in 1999 where he also completed his basic
surgical training and went on to complete an MD research degree developing his
interest in prostate cancer.

He completed his urological training in North London before moving to take up a lectureship at Cambridge University which he held for 4 years. There his interest in clinical research developed further. He completed the Royal College of Surgeons
Fellowship in robotic surgery before moving to UCLH to take up his consultant post in 2015.

Greg is a high volume robotic prostatectomist. He completed his 1000th robot assisted prostatectomy in 2022. He has performed the most radical prostatectomies at the highest volume centre in the NHS for each of the last 7 years. He leads the robotic urology team and is Associate lead for Urological Cancer at UCLH. He is Professor of Urology at UCL and leads several multidisciplinary research projects including the NeuroSAFE PROOF randomised controlled trial.

Professor Shaw continues to use the scientific skills learned in his research degree,
delivering up-to-date evidence-based diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer
to ensure the best treatment of his patients. The services he provided encompass the urology field including investigation of common problems (blood in the urine, etc), difficulty in urination, Raised PSA levels, and urinary tract infections. Additionally, he also diagnoses and treats prostate and bladder cancer, using a wide range of biopsies (trans-perineal and MRI-guided) to diagnose prostate cancers. Moreover, he is also proficient in performing benign prostate surgery and inguinoscrotal surgery.

Explanation

Prof. Shaw was my surgeon for a robotic nerve sparing radical prostatectomy. From the initial consultation (following a referral) throughout the entire process, up to and including my most recent 1 year PSA test follow up, Greg Shaw has been outstanding. My initial opinion by another surgeon was for a radical prostatectomy with certain lymph nodes also removed. Prof. Shaw and his radiology team’s view was that this was not necessary (and would have potentially added significant complications and have had long term implications), and he and the team have proven to be correct. Every interaction has been very professional and he has always taken sufficient time with me to explain/expand and answer any questions. Follow ups have been easy to arrange and always have been on time. I would highly recommend Prof Shaw and the team at the Prostate Center.

I Was Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in April of 2022. After initial consultations with the NHS . I decided to proceed with Prof Shaw. I was obviously very scared and nervous about what was to come but Mr shaw reassured me throughout the journey and to this day still checks in with me to ensure everything is going in the right direction for which I am very Grateful. He is so easy to talk too and explained everything in a manner which I understood. I will be forever grateful for his time and the great care that he took of me.

Professor Shaw has been extremely helpful throughout my whole prostate cancer experience to date. Prior to my operation, he was most patient in listening to my concerns and in providing answers and reassurances to a range of questions I had prepared, prior to consultations. His bedside manner was most calming during my recovery from the operation itself and in post-operation consultations he again has been most helpful in listening to any concerns and answering any questions I have raised.
