Clinical expertise
Professor Carlo Di Mario is a specialist in interventional cardiology – the use of catheters and other devices to restore blood flow to the heart without major surgery. These interventions can significantly help patients who are suffering from symptoms such as angina and shortness of breath.
It is a relatively new field and is growing rapidly to include interventions on the heart valves (TAVI, MitraClip), peripheral vessels and the correction of other structural heart abnormalities.
He is also a recognised authority in the field of intravascular imaging, with ultrasound, optical coherence tomography and near-infrared spectroscopy used for research and clinical guidance.
