Prof Aung Ye Oo is a Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery and Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon based in Liverpool and London, UK. He has over 30 years of clinical experience which helped him to build his reputation as a leading aortic surgeon in the UK.
After completing his MBBS in 1988 at the Institute of Medicine 1, Myanmar, he practiced in a number of institutions in the UK, Australia and Myanmar. He was registered as a specialist in cardiothoracic surgery by the GMC in 2003.
He specialises in aortic surgery and is currently the Clinical Lead for Aortovascular Surgery at the following institutions:
Prof Aung Oo is highly skilled in performing several cardiothoracic procedures, including: aortic and mitral valvular surgery, descending thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, aortic root replacement and off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. He also has expertise in the surgical management of thoracoab-dominal aneurysms.
He has specialist interests in organ protection in aortic surgery and the clinical outcomes of aortic and cardiac surgery.
Prof Aung Oo is also a Visiting Cardiac Surgeon at Yankin Children's Hospital, Myanmar. For over 8 years, he has used his expertise to provide training for the cardiology team in a range of surgical procedures. Many of the junior doctors he trained have gone on to achieve MMedSc degrees in Cardiovascular Surgery.
