My experience of stretta procedure was more daunting than what I had expected but I knew I was in safe hands with Prof Viswanath. I had not expected to feel any discomfort during the procedure with having sedation but I did and if ever had to have it done again I would ask for a general anaesthetic. It was well worth getting it done as after I was over my liquid diet and soft food diet my indigestion started to improve. As long as I am sensible with what I eat then I am okay.
Prof Viswanath explained the whole stretta procedure in excellent terms, able to be understood by the non medical person. I found the whole experience non stressful and without pain. During the procedure Prof Viswanath explained each stage; which was a great help in keeping me clam and relaxed. I would also express my thanks to the whole team, very professional and helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending the procedure, or recommending Pro Viswanath.
Everything was explained to me in a very clear and precise way and i was made to feel at ease before my procedure
I received a high level of care and reassurance before and after my operation. The wound healed well and I am back to my normal active life. I appreciate everything that was done for me.
After many years of stomach problems and after several differing opinions/treatments etc seeing several doctors, I felt worse and had low moods etc,Then I met prof Viswanath, our first apt was quite quick and there followed a series of tests and scans etc, which the prof had explained to me,i felt at ease at all times during these tests because he told me what he was doing. Our next apt the prof discussed the findings etc, going on to explain STRETTA and what it entailed,I was a little suprised but was reassured and given some paperwork to take away and read.About this time I began to feel at ease with things and that my problems might ease, THe apt for the procedure soon came and I met the Prof prior to the procedure again he explained how Stretta worked, what would happen that day and what to expect over the next months, I have little memory of the actual procedure, more paperwork about diet etc to take home, I carried out the advise on everything,I am DELIGHTED,I lost weight, far more active and better allround life,I used to rattle with all the pills I took before, now I take NONE ! only using Gaviscon when needed.HAD a follow up phone apt(call)after 5 months from Prof with more advise etc,I am very pleased with Prof Viswanath, his manner and his undoubted skills,I SAY HATS OF TO THE PROF,thank you .and best wishes.
Was extremely helpful and understanding from the off set and explained everything about the op, putting me at ease straight away The after care calls were also valuable and the doctors considerate and polite approach has been impeccable
I have only praise for the way I was treated at JCUH for my recent splenectomy operation. All staff were attentive and had time to explain any questions I had.
Over all excellent Iv never felt so good in a very long time I can do everything I want to with no pain at all thank you so much
Excellent experience overall. Well looked after.
Dr viswanath was highly professional and friendly. He explained everything about the procedure and what I would expect afterwards. He has answered any question I have had after the surgery I couldn’t have asked for more under the circumstances as my surgery was carried out just before covid lockdown.
From first meeting, Prof Viswanath explained fully in plain simple terms the reason for the procedure then what would happen to complete the hernia repair. Upon admission to hospital he then visited my room and whilst putting me at ease again outlined the method of surgery. During surgery I was given spinal anaesthetic which allowed me to be fully aware of what was going on, Prof Viswanath and the team chatted with me and provided reassurance throughout. Upon completion of the surgery I felt only a little discomfort but no pain which was pleasing but also unexpected and has allowed me to recover quickly at home. My follow up appointment was not possible at the hospital due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Prof Viswanath did make alternative arrangements and consulted with me via telephone at the specific time allocated for the appointment.
Professor Viswanath is an extremely skilful and experienced surgeon. He takes immense care over his initial assessment and gives clear and detailed explanations. My questions were answered directly, thoughtfully and with empathy. Professor Viswanath combines high standards of knowledge and surgical precision with an approachable and understanding manner.
Quick, efficient and professional
Fantastic experience with everything fully explained from start to finish by Prof Viswanath. The tests and more importantly the surgery went incredibly well and the recovery came with no surprises. The end results have been life changing, I’m reflux and symptom free for the first time in 15 years and feel like a different person.
My experience was overall great, I couldn’t fault any of the staff in Nuffield surgery, I got booked straight in for surgery, had one cancellation do to surgeon being away, they contacted me immediately and rescheduled for ASAP, Surgery went fine, my after care is going fine. I got all the info I needed regarding work and exercise. If anything happens where I need another hernia surgery, I hope it’s the same people doing it again.
Absolutely first class. Professor was kind and caring from the outset when we first met at Woodlands, Darlington. Given time to discuss all the options. On the day of my operation he took time to fully explain the procedure, took the personnel trouble to see my wife to tell her how things had gone and then came into the ward to see me after recovery. Have been in contact twice since. Firstly at Nuffield Health and secondly by telephone in lieu of face to face. (Coronavirus) Very grateful thanks. Recovery has gone well.
I have Done Stretta with Prof Viswanath, wonderful man, also at the hospital they were very friendly. What can I tell about the Stretta experience. I am now 6 months post operation and It was a road of ups and downs but overall I can say that the Stretta helped me for about 30-40% improvement and I stopped PPI's completely. Only thing have to keep is strict diet otherwise I still have acid reflux. Stretta helped me a lot for nightly reflux, before the Stretta I had a lot of nights that I had nightmares and woke up with burning sensation, now I still have occasionally nightmares but I don't wake up with the burning anymore so that is already a great achievement. I hope to improve more over the following months.
A friendly doctor who had a clear, concise manner. He readily answered questions and was very helpful with regard to accommodating my needs.
I had not met Prof Viswanath prior to surgery but was delighted to meet him when he appeared at the foot of my bed soon after surgery. What a lovely gentleman he is. He explained that the operation had gone to plan and put me at ease immediately. He also came to see me just before I was discharged and explained the diet that I had to stick to until I was back to normal. He is an absolute delight and I can't thank him enough for changing my life.

Made to feel very at ease from the outset. A very clear explanation at diagnosis and again before and after the operation.
I cannot stress how impressed I was with the level of knowledge, transparency and integrity Prof Viswanath showed me throughout the process of having my hernias operated and repaired on. The level of detail and confidence he showed through his clear passion in his field gave me reassurance and confidence that I was going to be ok. His passion and drive is clear to see and the care and drive to help didn't end after the surgery. He was keen to explain the reasoning behind the five hernias I had experienced and gave me great advice for my health and fitness going forward. Although I do not wish to require any treatment in the future, If I was ever in that position I was most definitely wish for Prof Viswanath to once again lead that.
What can I say, superb from start to finish! Professor Viswanath and Doctor Calli both put me at ease, particularly just before and during the operation. The anesthetic team great as well, with me being comfortable all the way through the procedure. Thanks to all the staff. Comfortable now after over 6 weeks since operation.
I was treated with kindness, courtesy and understanding all the way through. I asked if spinal analgesia would be possible and was given one. I had almost no pain at all from the end of the operation and had a completely uneventful recovery, getting back to doing all the things I had done previously. I am extremely grateful for all that was done for me.
Great experience from start to finish with Prof Yirupaiahgari Viswanath. Relatively quick referral and diagnosis. Detailed explanation and information on surgery options and how best to proceed. Operation was undertaken within three months and full recovery made within a month with no complications. Keyhole surgery very neat and has left three very small scars which you can hardly notice. I would like this opportunity to thank Prof Yirupaiahgari Viswanath again and all the staff at the Nuffield Hospital. The quality or service, care and reassurance I received was first class throughout the whole process but in particular the operation day.
Friendly knowledgeable professional compassionate caring
The whole experience was extremely professional and I was made to feel completely at ease. It was always possible to ask questions and make everything personal to myself. Explanations were made very clear and good advice given to ensure a much safer recovery if I followed professional instructions. Many thanks.
Excellent from start to finish
It was my first experience of being in hospital at the age of 76 years , I was made to feel at ease by everyone and the whole experience not as traumatic as imagined.
I felt in very safe hands and I would recommend Mr Viswanath to anyone. This was my second procedure with him and again very pleased with the results.
I felt that I was being looked after very well. What was to be done was explained to me. The operation went well and I was reassured during it. I had a local anesthetic, The after care was good. It was explained to me what had been done.
Mr Viswanath was fantastic he explained everything to me and made me fell really happy with the operation. I have recommended people with problems like mine to go and see him a fantastic man . He really makes you feel comfortable. My operation was 14 years ago and still working well a credit to him . Mr John Woods
Excellent communication throughout. Everything was explained fully from before the procedure until what was to happen following the operation.
From my initial meeting with Prof. Viswanath I have been impressed with the speed and efficiency with which my health issues were addressed. Appointments, diagnostic procedures and surgery were all scheduled quickly and very well organised and I am extremely satisfied with the outcome. Prof. Viswanath clearly explained procedures and outcomes in sufficient detail for me to be confident about what the operation would entail and the future impact it would have. The care I received during my hospital stay and on follow-up visits was excellent: the medical and ancillary staff were both friendly and professional and did all they could to address my needs. I am most grateful to Professor Viswanath for the care I have received and would not hesitate to recommend him. Thank you.
Throughout the process of my treatment I have been treated courteously and with respect and very well looked after. Each step has been explained and made easy for me to understand. All staff have shown total professionalism throughout the process. I have been made to feel relaxed and kept informed each step of the way.
have tried to enter five stars for all aspects but page did not seem to respond. The reason I have entered five stars is because Prof Viswanath listened to me and gave me the treatment that I have been requesting for three years from various others and always being told that an op was not needed. I am now enjoying eating for the first time in many years
Professor viswanath, is very professional and caring individual my experience was second to none each step of the operation was explained by him I would highly recommend professor viswanath to anybody I know thank you
I found the whole experience very professional.I was made comfortable and assured by the consultancy , supporting medical staff and administration before during and after my operation to be reassuring which made my stay and aftercare worry free. I would recommend this hospital without hesitation, thank you for the care which speeded my recovery.
Overall I had a fantastic experience. It was a very speedy process from start to finish. I was kept informed throughout and the level of care I received was exceptional. Mr Viswanath was extremely professional and made me feel reassured and comfortable. He is very welcoming and explained everything to me so I was fully aware of everything I needed to be.
Very good doctor explained everything regarding the procedure. Couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome. Thank you
I have found all aspects of my treatment to have been of the highest order. From the Receptionists onward, I have had nothing but courtesy , kindness and professionalism. Prof Viswanath is a master craftsman. Surgery was effective and neat. Must mention too the Anesthetist on the day : patients are always nervous before being " put to sleep" and he was especially good at creating a calm atmosphere. Would I come back ? Yes - but I hope I won't have to !
Very professional. Explains things clearly during consultations. No issues with the surgery and aftercare.
I received a prompt appointment when I was feeling very unwell, various scans were arranged and biopsies taken. When the biopsy result came back, Professor Viswanath sent a requirement for medication through the post so I did not have to wait for my follow up appointment before I began treatment. My GP arranged for the prescription and I started to feel well in a matter of a couple of days. I can highly rate the treatment I received from the professor.
Wonderful experience I was so well looked after, really listened to and felt genuinely cared for, and I felt time was given to me to understand everything. I felt I was a person at all times, not another case.
Prof Viswanath explained everything to me in detail prior to surgery. He came to see me before and after surgery too. He is very polite, professional and friendly. He put my mind to rest and did an absolutely fantastic job. My scars are shrinking already and are very neat. Thank you so much for your hard wok and support.

I am writing to thank the National Health Service for all the care and attention I received in January 2013. I had a Laparscopic Nissen Fundoplication Reflux Disease this year on the 7th January by Mr YKS Viswanath and it has completely changed my life for the better. From my first consultation last year with Mr Viswanath to having my operation was approx 6 months as my problem was not life threating. I do not really think that it is a long time to wait and cannot understand why so many people criticise the N.H Service. Mr Viswanath from my first meeting was kind, caring and understanding about my condition and very pleasant, reassuring me that he could give me a better quality of life. "Of which he has done". I know that he was the surgeon who done my operation and I would just like to thank him from the bottom of my heart for giving me a far better quality of life, but I would like to thank all the staff from entering into the operation theatre to coming out. A big thank you also, for I know that Mr Viswanath could not operate without the assistant of his team, and also the kind, care and attention after my operation on the ward who were lovely. A very much appreciated thank you to all them. A long we may continue to have a marvellous National Health Service.
I recently underwent exploratory surgery at the Woodlands to correct an umbilical hernia operation carried out by the NHS in April of 2012 once this was completed I underwent a further operation to correct a rather large secondary hernia in my tummy. I would like to know how grateful I am to Mr Viswanath Consultant surgeon, I am absolutely delighted with the outcome, please pass on my thanks to him. Also can I express my thanks to the theatre and nursing staff/ catering staff who looked after me really well and made me fell at ease. Thank you all so very much.
Overall Experience of Hernia Operation with Doctor Viswanath, had two consultants and had a rupture to the groin muscle. The operation was a success and I was looked after with the upmost care and quality. Dr Vis followed up with a consultation and everything was fine, The whole experience was extremely good and the health Care to a very high standard
Over several years I have experienced symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, regurgitation, Dysphagia, Dyspepia and even chest pain. These symptoms have worsened as time went by, but to me as I had lived with these experiences for so long it became a norm. My father had always had what seemed like severe heartburn and 'just lived with it', so then so did I. Taking medication such as Lanzoprazole, Gaviscon etc. had little or no effect at the point of my worst symptoms. My lifestyle was very much controlled by the severity of my symptoms. Such as planning in advance for example, if I was to go out for a meal. I would carry a plastic bag in my handbag in case of regurgitation. This was extremely stressful. The evening would end with disturbed sleep due to acid burning. My worst and traumatic experience regarding my reflux as an emergency admission to hospital. I had felt over several hours a tightening in my chest and a lump in my throat effecting my swallowing. My breathing became very difficult. It came to a crucial point whereby I felt I was having a heart attack. During this admission I was also investigating for a suspected blood clot in my lung due to the severity of my symptoms and pain. It became apparent that my symptoms had been a result of gastric reflux. It was not until I had attend an outpatient review following an operation to remove my Gallbladder some months previous, that I discussed my symptoms and experiences in detail to surgeon Mr Viswanath. Still at this stage I was unaware of the severity of my symptoms, and that indeed there was a possible treatment plan for this. I was given a PhD test and the mamotery test to determine the acid percentage and peristalsis action of my Oesophagus. This was done in preparation to determine if a Fundoplication procedure was appropriate. A diagnosis of GERD was confirmed. Feedback from these tests revealed 'unusual results' in relation to the acid content and percentage according to my surgeon. Surgery was planned accordingly. Anxieties prior to surgery led me to read around and explore as much information as I could about this procedure despite my surgeon advising me to read with caution as people all have different experiences following this surgery. I suppose it was like holiday reviews, the danger is to put off by what you read. I would like to share my experience as 'positive' following my surgery to hopefully reassure and person who may have been advised and considering surgery. It is now 7 weeks post surgery. I have not at all experienced any symptoms of gastric reflux or any of the experiences as before. Immediately after surgery I had clear fluids for a couple of days, moving onto milkshakes and ice cream for around 2 weeks. I progressed onto soft diet but continued my milkshakes for the next couple of weeks. The shakes ensured my energy levels were maintained which helped my recovery. I could feel that when I swallowed fluids or diet that my oesophagus was tighter for food to pass. Sometimes a little nervous that if I took to mouthfuls of fluid for example this would take its time to enter my stomach. Thoughts such as will I ever eat and drink normally again often come into my mind. The only side effects that I have experience following surgery have been weight loss of 24 lbs and the need to chew food properly to ensure easier swallowing. No symptoms of heartburn and no more medication. Be reassured, however that just 7 weeks on I am progressing nicely back to my usual diet. I don't feel the tightness anymore and continue to feel very positive and so thankful every day.
