I can highly recommend Mr Dale and his team following a very thorough, reassuring and successful patient experience. Following a thyroid nodule ultrasound and biopsy through the NHS I received an indeterminate result. I was left feeling unsure of next steps and nervous about surgery due to other health concerns. I contacted Mr Dale to explore my options and he clearly explained the pros and cons of my options based on the latest research, from this I was able to come to an informed decision which I felt comfortable with. I decided the partial thyroidectomy surgery was my best option. As expected the surgery went smoothly and I had minimal discomfort afterwards. The care from Mr Dale and his team was excellent, I felt in very safe hands. The incision site is small and is healing very well, once fully healed I’m sure it will be barely noticeable. Finally the communications from Mr Dale, Chloe and the rest of the team were faultless throughout. The consultations and surgery were self funded but worth every penny - I can not recommend Mr Dale highly enough.

Mr Dale was really clear and prepared me for everything I was going to experience e.g. physical examination and nasal investigation. He thoroughly explained what was causing my symptoms and provided a treatment plan going forward.

I visited Mr. Dale for a persistent cough, which had become worrying. His calmness and professionalism throughout my visits was reassuring to me. He explained everything he was doing, all of his findings and next steps to me very clearly and calmly. I came away feeling reassured that my problem was not of a major concern.

Explanation

I first met Mr. Dale on the morning I was having a sample of tissue removed to be sent for a biopsy. I cheekily cut to the chase and asked if it was possible to skip the biopsy and just have my tonsil removed, to save a second operation later. To which, Mr. Dale explained succinctly as to why that was not possible. From that moment I knew I was in the hands of a pro and felt totally reassured. The second time I spoke to Oliver was surprisingly on the Sunday evening 2 days prior to my scheduled operation following the biopsy. I had been told days prior by a member of the Bristol ENT team that I needed an operation to remove my tonsil, potentially lymph nodes later on and maybe even have to undergo radiotherapy. This all seemed rather daunting. Oliver apologised for ringing on a Sunday, but I was so happy to receive the call out of hours and immediately felt that my surgeon was taking a personal interest in my case. I cannot even begin to explain how much that meant to me at that time. Anyway, Oliver asked me how I felt about my proposed operation schedule and mentioned that he and the team had been reviewing my case and he said that he had a good feeling that I may not require radiotherapy and that there was an alternative operation schedule and would I be interested in considering it. He explained fully and clearly in laymans terms, (no doctor shorthand thank goodness) the pros and cons of both and completely left the decision to me; but was happy to hear that I chose the new alternative. My operation was a huge success and I only needed one instead of 2 and no radiotherapy. I am so grateful to having been given the opportunity (Mr Thierney/fellow ENT surgeon mentioned on visiting me in the ward post op , words to the effect of 'you chose the longer operation but you will benefit so much more in the long run') I have been going in for check ups every 6 weeks or so over the last year and my experience with him is always jovial, yet professional. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been operated on and cared for by Oliver Dale, not forgetting the whole ENT support team.
