Samantha Mann has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Guy's & St

Thomas' Hospital and London Medical clinic since 2009. She previously trained as a Registrar in the North London region and completed an MD in the Phenotyping of Age-related Macular Degeneration whilst a Clinical Fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She is one of three Medical Retinal consultants at St Thomas' leading a busy unit seeing and treating over 400 patients a week with conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, genetic eye disease and central serous

retinopathy.

Over the past 10 years, she has developed a special interest in Diabetes and Diabetic Eye Screening and leads the South East London Programme with over 120, 000 patients. She also specialises in anti-VEGF and steroid injection treatments for several retinal conditions (including Age-related Macular Degneration) and retinal laser treatments for diabetes and venous occlusions.

Qualifications

Having completed her medical studies at St Bartholomew's medical college in 1996, she went on to study ophthalmology on the South Thames Rotation followed by 2 years researching into Age-related Macular degeneration, acquiring an MD, at Moorfields Eye Hsopital and the Institute of Ophthalmology. Her registrar training subsequently followed at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital culminating in her final year as a fellow, specialising in Medical Retina. During her training she was awarded the Harcourt Medal for her performance in her MRCOphth exams.

She then took up her post as a consultant in Medical Retina, leading the South East Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in 2009 at St Thomas' Hospital, London and at the London Medical clinic in Marylebone. Since then she has developed a special interest in Diabetic Retinopathy and other retinal conditions including Age-related Macular Degeneration, Retinal Venous occlusions and Central Serous Chorio-retinopathy. She also specialises in intravitreal injection treaments (such as Eylea, Lucentis and Avastin) as well as intra-vitreal steroid injection treamtents such as Ozurdex and Iluvien. Additionally she performs medical retinal laser treatments for eye conditions including diabetic retinopathy, central serous retinopathy and venous occlusions.
