We found Tev Aho on-line where he received 5* feedback, having researched the top consultants specialising in Urology procedures. I met with Mr Aho on a Tuesday, when we discussed my condition and the HoLEP procedure, which he subsequently recommended. The following Saturday I was on the operating table! The procedure went perfectly; I spent just 24 hours in hospital from start to finish, following which I was discharged and was able to take it easy at home. Other than some mild discomfort immediately post-op, I made a very quick recovery and was back in the gym after six weeks. Thank you Tev Aho for giving me my life back!

I went to Mr Aho after other urologists refused to operate on a prostate the size of mine. Mr Aho did not blink. He assured me that he had done bigger ones and was confident of a good outcome. He found me a slot within 3 weeks and the procedure went well.

Mr Aho is a master of his delicate craft and likewise a master of the delicate art of patient communication. He explains clearly and calmly what is to be done and how, any likely problems and the outcome to be expected, and puts the patient at ease in initial interview, on the occasion of the operation and after it, where he gives a clear account of how the operation went. His communication (long-term, 6 months) after the operation is also very good. He has a charming and gentle manner with the patient, and his staff are also good at arranging his scarce time – I should add that, when he is with you, he never gives the impression of hurry or pressure. He seems from my experience to be an ideal practitioner whom I'd recommend to anyone.

The whole experience of having HoLEP prostate surgery was remarkably excellent. Mr Aho explained the procedure, risks and benefits very clearly and was not at all rushed when I asked him questions. I had the feeling from the start that his concern was most definitely for my wellbeing. I was admitted on the morning of my procedure and the operation was at 2pm and lasted about an hour. On waking, which was free from any nausea or unpleasant feeling I did not experience any pain or discomfort at all and only took one paracetamol tablet and then realised that I didn't need it. I have not experienced any pain or discomfort since the surgery. A catheter was in place on waking, but it did not disturb me and I stayed in hospital overnight because of a complicated medical history. The catheter was removed painlessly by the nurse the next morning and I was discharged. I had an excellent urine stream (it was at the time of Wimbledon and I thought I could now stand on the base line and pee over the net!). I did pass quite a lot of blood to start with, but this is normal and it slowly tailed off and stopped after about 3 weeks. I have been happily peeing ever since. I did have some incontinence to start with, but this has tailed off to an occasional slight drip of urine, for which I wear a small pad, but Mr Aho has now told me how to deal with this. I recently had my 3 month post op check. My urine flow was excellent and the amount retained in my bladder after peeing has gone down from 400-500ml to 55ml, well within the normal range. My wife and I resumed our sex life after about 3 weeks. I am absolutely delighted with the outcome of the surgery and the care and expertise that Mr Aho provided, a superb clinician and person. Thank you so much Tev

I was extremely impressed by Mr Aho's care and consideration, both before and after my operation (which entailed the removal of a prostate almost ten times the normal size). Before the operation, he explained in layman's terms my condition and the proposed procedure; after the operation, he was very attentive and enlightening. Any questions I had to ask Mr Aho about my pre- and post-operative condition were answered respectfully and with empathy. From the moment I first met Mr Aho, I felt I was in very safe hands.

Explanation

I underwent a HoLEP procedure in early August 2023. I took the decision to do this as I have been suffering from BPH with symptoms that were affecting the quality of my life. After searching for the best procedure and surgeon to do something about my BPH, I found Mr. Aho and confirmed that he is one of the best, if not the best, at performing HoLEP procedures in the UK. 2.5 months after the procedure I am so glad I did this as it has relieved my previous symptoms and improved the quality of my life enormously. The first 7-10 days immediately after the procedure were challenging, as there was quite a lot of bleeding and blood clots in my bladder that had to be removed by bladder washes. I ended up with a catheter for the fist 8 days which was a bit uncomfortable but once the catheter was removed, my recovery begun swiftly. Initially I had lost the control of my bladder and had several accidents with urination but 2.5 months after the operation I have regained at least 98% of the control and in the next 2-4 weeks I expect to be back to 100%. Mr Aho was excellent in his communications and advice with me. He explained all issues and helped me make a good decision which has definitely improved my life. I am glad I did this procedure at the age of 60 rather than waiting to do it at a later age.

Mr Aho was very good at explaining the procedure and the different options regarding the treatment. He answered the questions I posed with clarity and an appropriate amount of detail. The result of the treatment has been very successful. I have had very minimal side effects that are reducing day by day and after 3 months virtually non existent. My flow rate and bladder behaviour are now completely normal. I am delighted with the result of the procedure.

After considerable research in looking for a surgeon who excelled in Mr Aho's area it was clear to me that Mr Aho was just that. If that wasn't enough when asking another surgeon who focuses upon the same area of medicine as that of Mr Aho, this other surgeon stated that Mr Aho is excellent and this I can bear out. I find Mr Aho to be a knowledgeable and a clear communicator, making himself available and always responsive. His medical skills, and in my case his skills as a surgeon practicing HoLEP (Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate) are excellent. He is extremely experienced with this procedure, A fine doctor and a fine man.

After 7 years plus on Tamsulosin and 7 months of depressing catheters with visits to A&E, I was eventually, and thankfully, directed to Mr. Aho for a HoLEP procedure. From the very first meeting, Mr. Aho was polite, friendly, compassionate, and, most of all, had the time to listen. He described the HoLEP operation in great detail, providing both pros and cons, allaying any of my fears. The procedure was undertaken at the Princess Grace Hospital London, where again the service throughout was first class. I would, without hesitation, recommend him to anybody who is experiencing similar issues as the most erudite professional. In a nutshell Mr Aho has given me my life back: a big, big thank you.
