Mr Kamalarajah is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital disorders. He is based at the Royal Victoria Hospital and has a wealth of experience having performed more than 6000 cataract operations as well as a large amount of oculoplastic surgical procedures.
Mr Kamalarajah gained his medical qualification from the University of Dundee before completing his ophthalmic training in Belfast during which he also completed a Doctor of Medicine at Queen's University. He completed a subspecialist fellowship in oculoplastic, orbital, and lacrimal surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2002/3 where he gained expertise in the management of simple and complex oculoplastic disorders. He was appointed to the post of consultant ophthalmologist at Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry in 2003 and subsequently moved to the Belfast Trust in 2011, where he is currently based.
Mr Kamalarajah s a fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a member of The British Medical Association and British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society.
Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf and tennis.

My experiences were positive - surgeon kindly and polite. Gave brief explanation of procedure and asked if I had any questions.

An all round brilliant man

I was a little taken aback when the discharge nurse told me I should be off work for two weeks. I had not been informed of this at my pre op consultation, despite specifically asking this question. Had I known I would have been able to make preparations for this at my workplace
