About
Mr Simon Withey is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Barts Health NHS Trust. He sees patients privately at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth and King Edward VII’s Hospital. He specialises in all aspects of cosmetic and plastic surgery and has a special interest in Facial, Chest Wall, Abdominal Wall reconstruction surgeries, as well as breast reconstruction, skin cancer and wound management.
Mr Withey graduated from the University of London in 1984 before continuing with surgical training at several teaching hospitals. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1989 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1990. He then undertook two years of postgraduate surgical research and attained a Master of Surgery. He trained in plastic surgery in London and completed the Plastic Surgery Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998.
After completingsurgical training in England, he was awarded a travelling fellowship by the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and spent a year in Paris, gaining further experience in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He has been actively involved in plastic surgery research and has presented at both national and international surgical meetings.
He also regularly teaches plastic surgery trainees at the Royal College of Surgeons. Mr Withey has a key role in improving and setting standards for plastic surgery and has provided expert advice to various regulatory bodies, including the GMC, the MHRA, and the CQC. He has also given evidence to the House of Commons Health Select Committee, the Scottish Parliament and an EU Parliamentary Committee. He is the former President of the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and is a full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).
