    About

Simon focuses exclusively on treating patients with hip problems. He performs a high volume of hip replacements, hip arthroscopy, revision hip replacement and hip injections each year.

    Background

Simon completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Southampton. He was appointed to the prestigious academic post on the North-West London orthopaedic training rotation. During this time he completed a PhD at Imperial College London. This included novel work on implant coating materials and the development of patient specific guides for surgery.

    Fellowships

Simon completed a specialist hip fellowship at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital which has an outstanding reputation for joint replacement surgery. He was subsequently appointed to a hip and knee fellowship at the world renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, where he received specialist training in keyhole hip surgery (arthroscopy) and partial knee replacement surgery, including the industry leading Oxford Partial Knee Replacement. At the end of this fellowship he was appointed as a permanent consultant in the unit and now co-leads the fellowship programme, teaching the next generation of hip and knee surgeons. He has received highly specialist training in surgery for hip dysplasia at Guy’s Hospital in London and is lead for the adult peri-acetabular osteotomy service in Oxford.

I just finished my follow up with Dr Newman after my meniscus knee surgery, I just wanted to pass on that I thought Dr Newman was absolutely first rate and I received brilliant care. He was clear, friendly and answered all my questions, really putting my mind at ease. I’d been referred to Dr Newman after initially becoming dissatisfied with my previous surgeon and personally I found Dr Newman streets ahead. I can’t thank Dr Newman and his team enough for the care I received and the end result, which ultimately worked out exactly as hoped. Even though I don’t wish a similar injury on anyone, I’d be the first to recommend Dr Newman and team.

Dear Mr Newman and Team, as I did not get to see you personally at the hip clinic on Tuesday. I am writing to thank you and your team for giving up your Saturday to give me a new hip. It has given me my life back and I am very grateful for the care I received.

Dear Simon, I attended your discharge clinic this morning... 6 weeks after you performed a total hip replacement on me. I have to report that my recovery from the operation... and the success of it... can only be described as miraculous. My GP was astonished when I walked into his surgery after just 4 weeks and exclaimed that most people do not reach that condition after 4 months. Indeed, I have been walking totally unaided... and without painkillers since 1 week after the operation and my leg is now totally normal and pain-free. I am virtually unaware that I have had such a serious operation such a short time ago. I just don't know how I can thank you enough and express my admiration for your work. Thank you so much.

Simon is a highly respected surgeon. From an early stage Simon showed himself to be a safe and effective clinician. This is evidenced by his elective practice. As a young adult hip specialist he is a fantastic communicator and makes sure that his patients are fully understanding of all the management options available for their particular condition.
