Neurosurgeon
Headington, OX3 7RP
Mr. Simon Cudlip Graduated from King's College School of Medicine, London in 1990. During this period he also gained a BSc first class (Hons) in immunology. Following a period of training in general surgery in London he entered the neurosurgery training programme in London based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, and the Atkinson Morley Hospital, London. During this period of training he completed his MD thesis in MRI imaging of peripheral nerve and published numerous papers on this topic and on MRI spectroscopy of brain tumours.
On completion of his general neurosurgical training in 2003, he spent a year as a fellow at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square as the Pituitary Fellow to Mr Michael Powell. In addition to this he visited Naples and Bologna to gain experience in endoscopic pituitary surgery, and Seattle as a visiting fellow. In 2004 he was appointed as Consultant in Neurosurgery with a specialist interest in pituitary and skull-base surgery in Oxford, and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Neurosurgery at the University of Oxford. Since this time he has performed nearly 2000 transsphenoidal operations for pituitary disease, these have been performed using a pure endoscopic technique since 2007. As a result of this Oxford has the best established nationally recognised pituitary surgical training fellowship in the UK. These endoscopic techniques have now been developed further with his colleague Puneet Plaha, and extended into surgery for intrinsic brain tumours.
In addition to his other achievements, Mr. Cudlip is keen in the field of medical research and has published numerous papers, book chapters and reviews on the topic of pituitary surgery. He is also a tutor at the College of Surgeons of England and numerous international courses, teaching endoscopic surgical techniques as well as running a course on cervical disc replacement surgery in Amsterdam and the UK. More recently he has travelled to Uzbekistan and India, operating and lecturing on pituitary surgery in different nations, helping to broaden global knowledge and create better outcomes for patients worldwide.

I was recommended Mr Simon Cudlip via my Chiropractor following long standing back pain. Before my face to face meeting with Mr Cudlip I was asked to take a copy of my MRI to his office in Littlemore. I made the journey and dropped off the MRI CD in person as this was required before my meeting. On meeting Mr Cudlip it was clear he hadn’t viewed the MRI and he read a summary of the MRI from my phone. The diagnosis was that I should be referred to see a Gynaecologist and see someone re a steroid injection for the back pain. I saw a Gynaecologist who then ordered another MRI which suggested this was a disc issue and not a gynae issue. I never heard anything further re the steroid injection. I feel my experience has left me going round in circles and with nobody taking ownership of my situation. As I was self funded, I feel I had no medical oversight. Also, I have not had my original MRI CD returned to me and assume it was lost by Mr Cudlip’s team.
I'm sorry to hear this, with multiple doctors in different hospitals trying to help with the same problem I agree that it can sometimes be frustrating and unclear where responsibilities are, please get in touch with my secretary and we'll try and sort this out for you. Re your CD, it should be with our MRI dept, we'll either get it back to you or have another copy made
