About
Mr Richard Slater is a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Lower GI and Colorectal Surgery at Thornbury Hospital and Rotherham General Hospital. He completed his medical degree at Nottingham Medical School, University of Nottingham in 1993 and became a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons in 1998. His surgical training was completed in centres across Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield. He also spent two years of full time research on colorectal cancer liver metastases, after which he was awarded an MD.
In 2006 he obtained his specialist registration, and spent 6 months as a Clinical Fellow in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at St Mark's Hospital. He was later appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in the same year, with a special interest in colorectal surgery to Rotherham General Hospital, South Yorkshire.
Since then, his clinical interests have developed, now including laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery techniques in general surgery and coloproctology, including in the treatment of hernia, gallstones and colorectal cancer. Dr Slater has particular interests in Perioperative Care Optimisation techniques and Enhanced Recovery Programmes.
