Mr Phillip Edge has over 25 years experience as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon within the NHS where his expertise was recognised by his peers and registrar trainees, as well as by the NHS in rewarding him with 7 Clinical Excellence Awards.
He now works solely within the private sector. Mr Edge regularly performs surgery in both upper and lower limb including hip and knee replacements and knee arthroscopy. He also has extensive experience in treating hand and foot problems such as carpal tunnel release, bunions, tennis elbow, to mention a few. He practices privately at the BMI Manor Hospital (Biddenham), Bridges Clinic (Bedford Hospital) and the Harley Street Clinic (Great Denham, Bedford).
Mr Edge regularly meets with Orthopaedic colleagues from other NHS Trusts in order to widen his exposure to other schools of thought and practice. He is an excellent communicator and excels in passing on his knowledge to colleagues both practically and in theory. He has been nominated as Trainer of the year in East Anglia and runs several well recognised national courses for Advanced Physiotherapists. His communication skill with regards to his patients is equally good. He believes in explaining things clearly, using appropriate language, explaining all treatment options (both surgical and non-surgical), and recommending a personalised course of action which will provide the best outcome for each patient.
Phillip qualified in medicine in 1984, Cape Town, South Africa, where he also undertook and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in 1996 at the highly renowned Groote Schuur Hospital. He was then appointed as an Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, and in 2000 moved to Bedford Hospital.
Mr. Edge is more than willing to see patients with a range of orthopaedic issues, and holds clinics along side his excellent team to provide first class service.

Mr edge is very friendly and helps you relax. This enables you to listen and understand his explanation as to what is right and wrong in your individual circumstances. He is always willing to listen to what you have to say

The whole experience of hip replacement was very positive, no pain, and with relaxant prior to epidural anaesthetic, I have no recollection of the procedure at all. The aftercare was excellent as we're nurses and particularly the physiotherapist Sophie.

I’ve had shoulder problems for many years now, after seeing Dr Edge he got to the root of the issue rapidly, provided the much needed injections. He was also clear and helpful for next steps should the treatment require further steps. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind physician - will definitely be keeping my follow ups with him!

I was put at ease by the explanation of what was about to happen - I was not concerned by the enormity of a major operation at the age of 71 - the outcome has been fantastic and I have my life back.

A life changing successful operation carried out by a highly experienced and caring professional. Mr Edge took the time to explain the operation and showed me the X-ray and what would happen. I am so pleased at the result. A further benefit is that I am off all painkillers and my legs are now of equal length enabling me to walk properly and pain free! I could not be more pleased - both with the result and Mr Edge’s care

The experience I had with Mr Phillip Edge was excellent in all aspects of the procedure and after care. Everything was carefully explained.

Operations can never been enjoyable, though this hip replacement operation was definitely needed. Mr Edge explained straight away what I should have and urged me to have it done sooner. Probably should have listened, as I was a severe pain by the time of my op. I found Mr Edge to be incredibly nice, kind and thoughtful, pre, during and post op.
