Philip Rosell studied medicine at Guy's Hospital in London and gained an additional degree (BSc) in the history of medicine and ancient history. After qualifying, he performed his initial medical posts in Portsmouth and at the Cambridge Military Hospital before embarking on my formal military service with the Parachute Regiment. He completed his surgical training in Wessex, with some time spent on plastic surgery, followed by a specialist fellowship in Oxford where he was trained under Professor Carr in the shoulder and elbow unit. He also performed some of his surgical training in Grenoble, France, learning advanced techniques in arthroscopy and joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow.
Philip completed 25 years of military service and served on 4 operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan where on his most recent tour he was able to act as a mentor and pass on some of the military trauma experience to more junior military surgeons. He has transferred his allegiance to the NHS from the MOD and is still employed as a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital.
Philip is experienced in carrying out joint replacements of shoulders and elbows including the newer reverse polarity shoulder replacements as well as performing revision procedures for those implants where required. He also performs both open and arthroscopic procedures for shoulder and elbow conditions such as instability, rotator cuff disease impingement and arthritis and is a trainer in European advanced shoulder arthroscopy courses.
Philip is a member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society
I don’t think I could have chosen a better doctor for my shoulder surgery.
Throughout the process, Mr Rosell was very professional & friendly. He helped with any questions or worries that I had & my shoulder is very much improved. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.
Mr Rosell has been fantastic. He is very personable and an exceptional surgeon. His post surgery follow up is thorough and he really seems to care. I would definitely use Mr Rosell again if I am unlucky enough to have more shoulder issues that require surgery!
Very calming and reassuring manner, superb service and care!
I had a lipoma on the upper part of my right arm removed by Mr Roswell in February 2017 as a private patient. The treatment I received before, during and after surgery from all staff concerned was excellent and I am very pleased with the result, just a very faint scar left now.
Just what I needed, straight talking, no messing. On the mend now and quicker than I exspected. Would highly recommend!
Excellent care and straight talking no nonsense approach.
Very supportive and patient friendly
He was very professional and I felt extremely comfortable with the whole procedure.
Mr Rosell himself was very approachable, kind and understanding, i would definately recommend him and would, if i had to have another shoulder operation, like to be seen by him Tracey Bennett his secretary again was extremely helpful, and went out her way to get me seen and sort out my insurances etc All the team were excellent and i could not have been in better hands
Mr Rosell was very thorough in his initial examination of my shoulder injury, and offered me five possible ways forward. He was very easy to talk to and explained everything carefully. Having decided on the best option, his secretary, offered me various operation dates and I was able to choose the most suitable. Surgery went according to plan and I'm confident that by following the laid down exercise schedule, I will soon be fine again. In conclusion, I've been highly satisfied with the surgeon, Mr Rosell and everyone involved in my operation and care.
provided me with excellent service and is very helpfully and easy to talk to
I have always found Mr Rosell very professional. He gets to the point very quickly and explains the treatment needed in easy to understand layman's terms. His follow up letters are with me within a week and Tracey Bennett is always helpful with mails and phone calls.
I have had a few problems over a number of years with elbows and more recently my shoulder which Mr Rosell has treated and operated on. He is so easy to talk to and offers different options on how best to treat whatever problem I have had. He is extremely professional and personable.
A short note to say what a wonderful job the Colonel and his entire team provided on my broken elbow. At very short notice too. Nothing was too much trouble, healing well and even the wound stitching was impeccable! In a word, excellent. Thank you all.
Expert knowledge, professional and pragmatic approach and according to my golf swing and cricket performances the surgery was good too! What more do I need. A good all round team that were happy to help in a timely manner. Thanks all
Mr Rosell has operated on both my shoulders, sorting out my problem. He is very friendly and kind gentleman with a good bedside manor. He explains your problem to you very well and gives you the options for treatment. I have been very happy with all my treatment and would recommend Mr Rosell to anyone.
Very professional and extremely good at doing surgery. Both things I look for in my surgeon.
Professional but still approachable . I had every confidence in him and would happily have shoulder surgery with him again if I was to start over!
After a year of pain, I went to see Philip Rosell and he knew straight away what was needed and I’m pleased to say after my operation I have none of the pain which was making life so miserable,
I received excellent care from Mr Rosell, he kept me well informed and explained my surgery well.
fast and too the point. I needed answers to why i was in pain and what I could do about it. At the same time caring and considerate
Great care and advice from from first consult to the last. The surgery has allowed me to get back to my career in sailing which was not possible before. Thank you!
Rotator cuff operation in March 2017. All went well, full recovery. Excellent care by Mr Rosell.
Reassuring, good procedure explanation, attentive aftercare and planned follow up for my wife.
Dr Rosell is a very nice and helpful dr. He helped me with my golfers elbow after trying some procedures first we still decided that an operation is the best, now I don’t have problem with my elbow anymore. He discovered some other issues I had and referred me to an other dr and now I’m a different person, no more pain, they are all lovely doctors. I will definitely recommend dr Rosell to anyone and his assistant Tracey is such a lovely assistant, always very nice on the phone. A big thank you to dr Rosell and God bless him in all his work in the future.
I have seen Mr Rosell several times with a very painful shoulder which he has helped with to make more comfortable. I find him very professional he has a very calming manner and always has time which helps me immensely as I get very worried about not having the use of my shoulder, I always leave after a consultation feeling comfortable and relaxed knowing whatever he does will help me. I will always ask to see Mr Rosell I gave great faith in him and would recommend him.
Very pleasant and done first class repair on my rotator cuff
Mr Rosell was excellent so knowledgeable and understanding and didn’t make me feel like I was imagining my pain. Some consultants can make you feel like it’s in your head and attention seeking but he was amazing and explained everything so clearly without being patronising. He has an exceptional beside manner and fixed me after 2 years of chronic and unbearable pain he is a genius and would have no hesitation to recommend to anyone. His entire team at Clare Park were excellent and with my phobia of hospitals put me at ease every step of my treatment. Thank you all so much
Hello Tracey In reply to your email I would like to say I was very pleased with my treatment from Mr Rosell. My only hope is that eventually I will be pain free, especially at night.
My sporting career was in jeopardy before I came to see Mr Rosell. After 3 shoulder dislocations and a surgery already that was unsuccessful, he knew straight away what the best course of action was to get my shoulder back to the point where it could endure the rigours of my sport. While the surgery was quite significant, I experience far less pain then I had expected in my recovery. Regular follow ups indicated the surgery had been a success and Mr Rosell gave me confidence in my shoulder again. After 6 months I started playing competitive Ice Hockey again with the main goal of playing every game this season. 1 year post op with the season having only just concluded, I can say that I achieved my goal, and the shoulder hasn't given me an issue since going back. I now need to focus on the future, getting stronger and developing my career further, but I know I wouldn't have got this far if it wasn't for Mr Rosell him fixing my shoulder a year ago. Thank you!
Mr Rosell has carried out an operation and a couple of procedures on my elbow and more recently my shoulder. He is extremely professional but also very approachable and friendly. Even more importantly the procedures he has carried out have been successful.
A couple of years ago, I did some significant damage to my shoulder and Mr Rosell did a very neat job and I have back good movement. Last year, I managed to slip on some ice in a car park in Italy and the whole of my left arm was x-rayed, the Italian doctor said that my elbow needed surgery in the next few days and, specifically commented, that I should go back to whoever did my shoulder as it was a particularly good job. This I did and Mr Rosell has, once again done a very good job at both the initial fixation of my elbow and, more recently, removal of the metalwork. I have back pretty much all of the original, pre-break movement, and the scarring is minimal based on the fact that when the metalwork was removed, he also removed the original scar tissue so I only have one, very neat, scar from two rounds of surgery. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Rosell and, talking with other healthcare professionals locally (including my physio), they all rate him very hightly.
Philip Rosell is a pragmatic, down to earth surgeon with an excellent consultative manner not afraid to "tell it as it is". He always gives full information about the options as well as his advice, then allows the patient to decide the best course of action based on their needs. He is definitely not afraid to step out of the normal comfort zone when the need arises and will always go the extra mile to ensure the best for his patients. I have now had six procedures with Mr. Rosell and cannot fault his treatment.
Mr Rosell is a skilled and thoughtful shoulder surgeon. I would happily recommend him.
