I had just said to a member of the Orthopaedic Team at Barnet Fracture Clinic that I didn't want to go into hospital and I didn't want an operation (due to Covid 19 fear) when Peter Domos entered the room. He was the expert in Surgery for my type of broken shoulder. Mr Domos was down to earth explaining the surgery I could have at my level of understanding. He had a sense of humour and great personal skills but he also was passionate about what he does. I was very clear what it would entail if I went through with the operation and he was very clear about how he would be on the journey with me throughout. We agreed a night to consider and he rang me next day for my decision, again with time to reassure me. That was Saturday; I had a reverse shoulder operation on the following Wednesday and was home by Thursday. All as promised. Three months later I am now doing physio to get the maximum movement and strength back in the joint and everything has gone as promised and planned. I am so pleased that I went ahead with the operation and recommend Mr Domos for everything he does. He is a great surgeon but importantly his people skills are excellent and he always did what he promised me before and after the surgery. If he saw me in fracture clinic for a routine check up he would always see me himself. This on top of his routine follow up appointments with me.

My Mum was very pleased with Peter Domos, he put my Mum at ease, always had a smile on his face and nothing was too much. He took time to make sure my Mum understood what was involved in the operation when my Mum at first fully understand what was happening. My mum was also pleased that he made time to see her when she was in hospital after the operation

Explanation

I had a motorcycle accident on the 5th August 2019 and my follow up care was with Peter Domos. I had a type 3 AC disruption on my right shoulder. I tried physio to see if the injury could be improved without surgery. However I still had pain and discomfort and was unable to lift or do anything overhead, my biggest concern was being able to life my infant Son and to be able to swim properly again which I was unable to do. After 6 months of physio I still had pain and discomfort and after consultation with Peter Domos we agreed to proceed with reconstructive shoulder surgery. This took place in September 2020 after delays due to Covid. Considering the nature of my injury the surgery has exceeded expectations and I am able to lift my Son again. Whilst there is still some time for recovery I am more or less back to the same as I was before the motorcycle accident. I found Peter Domos to have a very warm and friendly bedside manner, not only with me but I noticed with all patients and hospital staff. He was very professional at all times. Should you be fortunate enough to have Peter Domos as your consultant you will be in very good hands.

Explanation

I suffered a severe multiple fracture of the shoulder in November 2019. It was a horrific mess and I was very anxious about my injury. Mr Domos, having viewed my x-rays asked to see me. On the agreed day he was running late, but sent his Registrar to apologise and to check if I minded waiting a little longer. I was astounded at such thoughtfulness, but this was only the beginning. When I met Mr Domos I was immediately struck by the care, concern and attention shown to me. He was realistic and honest about my prognosis, and full of empathy and compassion at my upset reaction. But he gave me hope when he then looked me in the eye and told me he was going to 'fix me'. He was so positive about what he thought he could do for my situation, and so passionate about his work, that I knew I was in the best hands possible and I instinctively trusted him. He did not over promise - he made me aware of the challenges that lay ahead regarding the surgery and how complex the operation would be, the intense and lengthy physiotherapy that would follow it, and the commitment that would be needed to keep going when things got tough. But he gave me confidence, and he made me believe that if we worked together and each did our bit, amazing results could be achieved. He was not wrong!! The surgery was challenging, lengthy and very complex, but I shall never forget, when in recovery, the first face I saw was that of Mr Domos with a huge beaming smile and uttering those precious words, 'I fixed you'. Mr Domos was indeed able to repair my shoulder and thus initiate the healing process. The care continued in each follow-up appointment, whether this was over the telephone due to Covid, or when safe, in person. The enthusiasm and upbeat attitude was always present, encouraging, motivating and wanting the best for each and every patient. I witnessed on two different occasions, long hand written lists of contact details for patients Mr Domos would ring in person before his shift would end, despite a full waiting room of patients still to see. Everyone mattered! As a result of his skilful surgery amazing results have been achieved. Words can never fully express the immense gratitude I feel towards Mr Domos for what he has done for me. I will be grateful to him for the rest of my life and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I recently had a nasty fall and unfortunately smashed my right elbow to pieces! At our first consultation Peter (he insisted we call him that) was really sympathetic and patiently explained all the options, pointing out the pros and cons, and insisting how important the physio would be. He even had a short amount of time to chat about his, and my partner's passion, Formula 1. Surprisingly, their chat put me very much at ease. After a 5.5hr operation, when I came round from the anaesthetic, he was there to reassure me that all had gone very well and he was extremely pleased. I was so happy to see him. 2 weeks on from the operation I am feeling very positive and things are going as they should. Thank you so much Peter!!!
