Mr. Mano Shanmuganathan completed his initial medical training from the University of Leeds in 2001, completing his Basic Surgical Training at the Yorkshire School of Surgery in 2006 and his Neurosurgical training in Edinburgh and Aberdeen in 2012.
Following his surgical training, Mr. Shanmuganathan went on to undertake higher sub-speciality training in Paediatric Neurosurgery and Craniofacial Surgery in Great Ormond Street Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. He continuously strives to add to his professional portfolio and in 2015 he widened his expertise by undertaking an Orthopaedic / Neurosurgical Spinal Surgery and Pain Management sabbatical in Aberdeen.
Mr. Shanmuganathan's practice is based at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children as a Consultant Adult and Paediatric Neurosurgeon. He is one of two Paediatric Neurosurgeons that serve Northern Ireland. He practices privately at in the Maypole Clinic, Holywood and Kingsbridge Private Hospital, Belfast.

A really nice and friendly man with a great sense of humour. He was very quick to find exactly what my problem is and requested mri scan to pinpoint where to treat. He said he will ring me with the results in order to save me the long drive back and will organise whatever treatment is required.

Dr Mano recently did my spinal fusion. We have been on a year long journey to solve my spondylolisthesis issues. He had been frank, pragmatic and given options with no influence on decisions. I have anxiety disorder so I ask a lot of questions and like to understand the details he's been wonderful with that and in explaining to my family. He came to see my before surgery, after and even the next day on his day off. His personal touch is fantastic. His level of care is next to none staff cannot say enough nice things. He was very frank about the level of pain I would be in and what that will be going forward. Whilst I had a spot of trouble getting the medications he advised for after being in hospital, he gave me all the info I needed esp in terms of worried around damage and rehab. Whilst it will take a year to know if my graft has been successful and I have a long road ahead I feel confident that with Mano I will get the care and experience I need. He's the doctor everyone should get to have.

My case is complex. Whilst I am not the most severe case by any measure I'm sure, dr Mano treats me with utmost important. Our first treatment was mostly unsuccessful he has gotten to the root by finding an alternative possible future option. He takes the time to go through steps and ensure it's the right thing and not rushing into surgery. He takes time to answer all my silly questions
