Professor Khurshid Akhtar, Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon, currently works within the Salford Royal Foundation Trust. His Department of Upper GI Surgery is currently one of the biggest units of its kind in the UK. Prof Akhtar is also an active researcher, he has a keen interest in esophagogastric cancer, Barrett's oesophagus and bariatric surgery. Professor Akhtar is an amazing consultant. He was highly recommended to myself from a friend. He was very thorough and caring right from the initial consultation to the after surgery check appointment. He was very friendly and put me at ease regarding my surgery

Professor Akhtar is polite, calm, articulate and surgically objective. Prof Akhtar presented full information about my condition and treatment options and decisions where taken mutually, with appropriate stepping stone safeguards regarding pre-surgical tests, checks and balances. The outcome was surgery only when all other reasonable steps had been checked and the risk / reward ratio was clear; a very clear surgical & recovery plan and an excellent post surgical outcome. I only wish I’d been referred to Prof Akhtar 14yrs ago when symptoms first presented. I’m now medication and symptom free with zero post surgical complications or side effects. My condition is practically cured and aside from the 5 tiny keyhole incisions marks, there are no legacies of the surgery. I had no post surgery discomfort and was fully mobile within 2 weeks. I’m now able to participate in activities and eat things I’ve been unable to for several years. Prof Akhtar is a gentle and meticulous surgeon I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
