About

Mr Khalid Ikram is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with more than two decades of clinical experience in his field.

He received his primary medical qualification and initial training at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, graduating in 1991. After qualifying, he underwent ophthalmic surgery training at a number of leading hospitals in Southampton and Oxford. He subsequently completed his subspecialty fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. During this fellowship he gained expertise in both laser vision correction and intraocular surgery.

Mr Ikram was appointed as a NHS Consultant in 2002 and is largely based at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport. Alongside this post, he is also an Honorary Consultant at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital which is one of the largest ophthalmic teaching & training centres in Europe.

In addition to his extensive experience in general ophthalmic care and specialist expertise in small incision cataract surgery, Mr Ikram has further developed considerable expertise in refractive surgery techniques, including corneal excimer laser and intraocular lens surgery. This expertise is valuable for the management of eye conditions such as myopia, hyperopia and presbyopia.

Mr Ikram is a passionate educator and alongside his clinical work he teaches and trains junior ophthalmic surgeons. He previously held the position of Ophthalmology Tutor with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists at Stepping Hill Hospital. As a tutor at the college, Mr Ikram also sat on the regional specialist training committees where he selected individuals for advanced ophthalmic surgical training in the North West as well as monitored, assessed, and appraised their progress.

Mr Ikram also has a particular interest in improving the standards of cataract and refractive lens surgery assessments and planning. He runs teaching conferences surrounding this topic both nationally and internationally at centres with large audiences.
