“I’ve had back pain on and off for over ten years. Around six years ago I was told I had a degenerative herniated disc and the pain has gradually gotten worse and worse. I’ve seen various doctors over the years and it’s always resulted in getting physio which sometimes helps but most of the time the pain returns, just worse. I looked around to find someone that could help me address the issues I have once and for all. I came across Dr Lam’s information and just reading his profile on the work he’s done I felt he would be best qualified to provide the care that I needed. I was very easily able to book in my first consultation with Dr Lam’s secretary - this part of the process was seamless as it should be. At the actual consultation, Dr Lam was very approachable and easy to communicate with. He let me explain my full circumstances and was sympathetic to finding out about me having been shielding for almost 18 months at that point due to brain surgery I had last year. I was pleased to see that he’d already reviewed in full my file including the MRI scan results and after listening to me explained what he felt was the best course of action. He clearly explained some complex procedures and then emailed me with a summary of everything he’d said along with further information about the procedures so I could review these in more detail and allowed me the opportunity to come back to him if I had any questions. Dr Lam was also able to clearly explain to me what the plan would be in both situations (if the procedure worked/if it didn’t). Since the procedure, Dr Lam has kindly also referred me to the physiotherapists he feels best placed to help someone in my situation. When I decided to go with Dr Lam, I did so because I needed someone to help me pass through a very difficult stage in my life and Dr Lam has not just done this - he’s gone beyond what I would have expected and has helped me with all stages of this recovery and not just done the procedure and then left me (as I've experienced previously with some doctors unfortunately). Ultimately, I’m glad that I had the confidence to trust Dr Lam with my health and it is because of him, I finally believe that things are looking up and I have a good chance of recovering - thank you Dr Lam.“

It is important that HCA is transparent about our relationship with those doctors who provide us with clinical guidance on delivering the best possible care to patients and operating our hospitals safely and efficiently. We set out here some of the ways in which we work together and the amount we pay this doctor for such services.

Mr Lam has provided the most outstanding medical treatment and care that I could have hoped for and imagined. From the beginning of my entire medical journey to its completion, over the course of 5+ years Mr Lam was constantly attentive, reassuring, professional, and wholly respectful of the patient's concerns and interests (which isn't always the case in the medical profession with many surgeon's "pushing" surgery - this couldn't be further from the case with Mr Lam). Mr Lam's surgical skills are clearly almost without comparison, and his after-care consultation and care have been fantastic and greatly appreciated. I hope many more patients have the pleasure of the care and medical skills I have received from Mr Lam.

Mr Lam has deep expertise in his field and was able to clearly explain the benefits and risks of different possible options to treat my back injury. And once we had agreed to go ahead with surgery, he went above and beyond to secure the time and resources to operate as soon as possible. I'm very happy with the outcome.

Mr. Lam has operated on both of my twin daughters for idiopathic Scoliosis, twice as Lily needed additional surgery for a Distal Add on. We would not have trusted anyone else to carry out the procedure. Mr Lam is incredibly informative and gives you all the information you need to decide on the next step. Mr. Lam put us all as a family at ease, he was conscientious and thoughtful on how the surgery would impact, not just the patient, but the entire family. It was incredibly reassuring to know he understood the enormous decision we were making and never pushed for us to decide one way or another. Mr. Lam consulted with his expert peers before suggesting any course of action for our daughters giving us the confidence that we were making the best-informed choices that we could. Post-surgery Mr. Lam or his anesthetist Mr. Sherry called straight away to let us know all was well (the wait during surgery is brutal) and they were both at the bedside as soon as they could be with post op expectations and advise. Mr. Lam has an incredible team around him and in both hospitals, where we were admitted, he is extremely well regarded by all ward, clinical and surgical professionals. We would recommend Mr. Lam completely.

Mr Lam was very understanding of the issues I was experiencing with my back. He came up with a plan which resulted in me regaining height, balance and the ability to walk distances which was fantastic. He was very clear and thorough with his explanations of the procedure and what it entailed and with the follow up post operation. I feel very fortunate that I found Mr Lam and would not hesitate to recommend his impressive skills.

I was initially recommended Mr Lam from a colleague who had complicated spinal surgery so at my initial consultation I was already full with confidence in his ability. Taking the decision to have my required surgery was an easy choice and a choice of my own. From suffering from horrendous nerve pain for months I had part of my disc removed in my lower back that was sitting on my sciatic nerve, I walked out of the hospital the same day! Mr Lam carried out the surgery via keyhole which has left me with an extremely neat incision scar of 1-2 cm which I am confident will completely fade in time. My recovery was marvelous, being back on my feet the same day and 100% recovered within the week! I am amazed and grateful how wonderful the procedure was, it completely changed my life, I was in agony, sleep deprived and run down before the surgery, I would highly recommend Mr Lam and speaking to other health care professionals he seems to be a very popular and highly rated surgeon indeed. Thank you again Mr Lam.
