Orthopaedic Surgeon
Guildford, GU1 3LX
Mr. Kerry Acton is a highly experienced hip and knee specialist who was appointed as consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 2007. He pioneered minimally invasive (MIS) hip replacement in Surrey and is an innovator in uncemented partial and total knee and hip replacement for younger patients. He also specialises in soft tissue problems of the hip and knee and carries out arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) of both joints. He has a special interest in complex and revision hip and knee surgery for failed joint replacements and carries out most of the redo surgery for loosening and fractures around hips and knees in his hospitals.
Mr. Acton's undergraduate and basic surgical training was in London and his Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics began on the Stanmore rotation and was completed on the South West Thames rotation in London, Surrey and Sussex. He completed the Wellington Knee Surgery Fellowship and was the first Furlong Fellow, completing a year of specialist training in revision hip and knee surgery. He has delivered prize winning presentations at academic meetings and published research in peer reviewed journals. During his training he sat on the Royal College of Surgeons Specialist Advisory Committee for Orthopaedics as well as the Intercollegiate Board, overseeing the FRCS exam.
Mr. Acton is one of the busiest surgeons in the region, carrying out more hip and knee replacements annually than the vast majority of his peers as evidenced by the National Joint Registry. He also has one of the lowest revision rates of his own joint replacements in the country. He continues to innovate to improve orthopaedic outcomes and is actively involved in research both with the University of Surrey and in running clinical trials based at the Royal Surrey. He is regularly invited to teach, lecture and demonstrate his surgical techniques in the UK and internationally in Europe, Asia and Australasia. He runs a senior clinical fellowship, helping the next generation of surgeons to transition from trainee to independent consultant.

Was very nervous to have surgery and Mr Acton explained everything very well and after surgery came round to reassure me it went well with no complications. He then came the following day for a chat and explained what he’d done in my surgery and helped me understand what I can and can’t do and how long recovery would be.

Mr Acton was very professional and explained every step to me clearly and concisely. He also answered all my questions (I had many) in a calm and reassuring manner. The follow up appointments also were handled well and he explained in detail what my post-op progress would be like. My only regret is not having the surgery sooner.

Mr Acton has performed knee replacement surgery on both my knees. I have been very pleased with both pre and post operative care.
Thanks for taking the time to write us a review, and we are pleased you were so satisfied both with the treatment you received before your surgery, and the operation itself.

Mr Acton replaced my hip for me and from start to finish I felt in safe hands. Mr Acton explained every thing clearly and answered any queries I had both before and after my operation. If my other hip needs replacing at any point I will defiantly be returning to him.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review, and we are so pleased you felt you had such a positive experience. We also hope that, should you need any more surgery, you feel confident coming back.

I was initially referred onto Mr Acton from another orthopaedic surgeon at Royal Surrey Hospital. I had a rare condition called snapping hamstrings. It was identified by the orthopaedic surgeon at Royal Surrey however, it was such as a unusual condition that he couldn't actually treat it before nor many others in that field can do so as its something that most of them would not see in their lifetime. However, after being referred onto Mr Acton, I chose to go private considering the waiting times and the duration of my situation. Mr Acton and his team at Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford was fantastic. Whenever i needed to ask any questions, i would always have a response incredibly quickly and it was very straightforward and very helpful. As for the surgery, their wasn't a definitive treatment plan for it. However he decided to take one of my tendons out and it appears to be a success as none of the symptoms have returned. It happened very quickly as i went to first meet him in the summer time and now have been just discharged from him right before christmas. If anyone has any complex situation regarding knees then this is the person you have to see after my personal expierience of seeing numerous people over the years, he is by far the best i have come across and i can't recommend him enough.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this very long and detailed review. We are very pleased that, with such an unusual condition, we were able to help you, especially as you had been suffering for quite some time. We do hope you have now made a full recovery.
