About
Mr Ivan Fawcett is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Rivers Hospital in Sawbridgeworth and Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford. He has extensive experience in general ophthalmology especially cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, glaucoma, and age related macular degeneration. He has a special interest in vitreo-retinal surgery including trauma, acute retinal detachments, vitreous haemorrhage, macula holes and retinal fibrosis.
He completed his medical degree in at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1980. Following a number of SHO posts in Neurosurgery in Glasgow he joined the Tennent Institute of Postgraduate Ophthalmology and became a Lecturer and Senior Registrar to Professor Wallace Foulds CBE. He completed further ophthalmology training at St Pauls Eye Hospital in Liverpool and was the first Vitreo-Retinal Fellow of Prof David Wong.
Mr Fawcett has an ongoing academic interest in occriplasmin macula hole and VR traction. He is a member of the Royal College Ophthalmologists and Royal Society of Medicine. In his spare time he enjoys gardening and sailing. He will see patients aged 18 and above, he also accepts referrals for private and NHS patients.
