Mr. George Whitwell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. His areas of specific interest are hip and knee replacement surgery (primary and revision) for a variety of underlying conditions including osteoarthritis. He also performs knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery).

Mr. Whitwell carries out his NHS work at Chapel Allerton hospital in Leeds where he was appointed in 2012. He also sees private patients at Joint Motion Healthcare, Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital and Spire Leeds Hospital. Alongside his clinical work, Mr. Whitwell is also a passionate educator and he is a trainer for junior orthopaedic surgeons at Leeds Teaching hospitals and an instructor on regional training courses.

Mr. Whitwell completed his medical degree at Leicester University Medical School and was trained in Yorkshire as a registrar. He then undertook additional fellowship training in hip and knee surgery at Warwick, York and Leeds. He became a Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2009. He practices enhanced recovery techniques in his joint replacements, recognising the importance of recovery in the success of surgical intervention and giving patients the best possible outcomes.

In addition to his busy practice, Mr. Whitwell is also active in the field of research and has published and presented research in international journals and meetings.
