Dr Ehab Abdelkader graduated from Menoufia University and undertook his formal Ophthalmology training in Egypt before moving to the UK for additional training. After moving to the UK he undertook a Medical retina fellowship in Aberdeen for two years. He teaches and trains in his field, and has delivered many lectures, courses and tutorials. He is a member of the examiner's committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Dr Abdelkader is an active researcher in the field of Ophthalmology and has publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has been an investigator in important randomised controlled trials including one comparing treatments for age-related macular degeneration, a common cause of blindness in the UK. He has written chapters in Ophthalmology textbooks and is a reviewer for numerous Ophthalmology journals. He also speaks at conferences nationally and internationally. He received an award for an outstanding contribution to the scientific program in the SAARC meeting in 2016.
