Mr Al-Musawi began his medical training with an MB ChB from Baghdad University in 1979, and his Board Certificate of Surgery (CABS) in 1989. He then moved to the UK in 1991 for additional training, especially in the field of laparoscopic surgery. In 1992 he was inducted as a Fellow into the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He continued his training in northwest London, and in 1998 received an MSc – Master of Surgical Sciences – from Hammersmith Hospital Imperial College, London. In 1999, he was inducted as an Intercollegiate Fellow for General Surgery in the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. One of his highest honours has been receiving the international Hallet Prize from the Royal College of Surgeon of England.
The doctor has previously served in several hospitals throughout the UK, including the aforementioned Hammersmith Hospital while at Imperial College. He has also worked at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospital NHS Trust. Mr Al-Musawi has become one of the top laparoscopic surgeons in the UK, performing many audits on his operations with extremely high patient satisfaction and outcomes.
