“I came to Mr Cahill for a second opinion regarding my prostate surgery. I had carried out a lot of research into the subject and became aware of the importance of using a highly skilled, high-volume surgeon in order to achieve the best possible outcome. My wife and I met Declan - he was highly professional and approachable; he answered our questions and addressed our concerns. We therefore chose Declan for my surgery. Everything went according to plan; I recovered well, with no complications. Declan telephoned me the night before my surgery to put me at ease, he was there after my surgery and is always available if I have any concerns. Two months post-surgery, my continence is almost 100% and my first PSA test is undetectable. There is a plan in place to help with my ED, and I believe that this is all thanks to Declan and his excellent team. Prostate cancer and surgery is difficult to deal with but with Declan and his team with you - you are always in safe hands. “

Mr Declan Cahill is a Consultant Urological Surgeon. In 1993, he qualified at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (now Imperial College) with distinction.

Much of his extensive medical career has been spent training in London. Owing to his medical excellence, he was awarded the Hallett Prize Gold Medal for General Surgery and then the Keith Yates Gold Medal for Urology. After completing his urology training in London, he undertook fellowship training at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, the world-leading institution at the time, where his specialism was minimally invasive prostate surgery.

Mr Cahill has an excellent reputation in general urological diagnostics and treatment as well as his own specialist practice in prostate cancer. His specialist areas of interest include prostate cancer, robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, general urinary diagnostics and management including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), haematuria, and general conditions of the scrotum and penis.

For robotic radical prostatectomy his results are equivalent to the best published results in the world for cancer margins, continence and potency. He operates on a very high volume of patients with prostate cancer each year, performing between three and five robotic radical prostatectomies per week.

At sixty one years of age I have never had an invasive operation prior to having my prostate removed. I was very anxious and worried about what lay ahead, but on meeting Mr Cahill I felt enormous confidence. His explanation regarding my situation and how the procedure would be undertaken fully reassured me. When I arrived for surgery, his kindness and personal attention made things easier for me. I knew he had an extremely good reputation as a surgeon, but his bedside manner and kindness carried me through the challenge of the operation. It all went very well indeed and he was pleased with the results and my recovery went smoothly. I have seen him on a number of occasions since and he and is excellent colleagues have been highly professional and above all kind and attentive. In summary, any patient who has Mr Cahill as their surgeon can count themselves as extremely fortunate.

I found MrCahill to be empathetic, understanding and willing to explain. I wish he had more time to spend with each patient though I understand why he doesn’t. I am so grateful that he is such a brilliant surgeon. I wish others in his position were prepared to address erectile distinction with the same level of importance that he does. Wish we had more Declans!!!

He is Human! Passionate about caring for those that come into his care. His smile and humour prior and post surgery were reassuring. I know he had his hands full with me and his comment the following morning made me smile. I will remember that comment for many years to come. He will remember this too I hope.
