Mr Benjamin Lindsey is a consultant general, vascular and renal transplant surgeon based in London and working at the Royal London Hospital.
Mr Lindsey has specialised in both vascular surgery and renal transplantation for the last 12 years of his consultant surgical practice. His fellowship award from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for laparoscopic donor nephrectomy has made him a trusted choice for complex surgery by hundreds of people in the UK.
He typically sees patients with kidney disease, kidney failure, and vascular issues such as carotid stenosis, iliac and popliteal aneurysms, and issues caused by diabetes.
He has a special interest in atypical limb pain, alongside having a keen interest in research surrounding the use of nanotechnology to create small calibre bypass grafts. Mr Lindsey has received research funding from the EPSRC to develop technology to improve the lives of patients on dialysis.
Mr Lindsey has considerable expertise in designing and delivering unplanned surgeries. He also has a track record of training surgeons in operative surgery both in the UK and overseas.
Mr Lindsey trained as a general, vascular and renal transplant surgeon in the UK and South Africa. Following the completion of his UK training, he undertook fellowships at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, in both trauma and transplant surgery before moving to Eerste River Hospital in Stellenbosch to work as a single-handed general surgeon. He was later appointed as the first dual NHS accredited vascular and renal transplant surgeon in London, working at the Royal Free Hospital before moving to Barts to replicate the same clinical practice.
Mr Lindsey has appeared in the media participating in a live kidney transplant on Channel 5 in 2019.
