Mr Barry Maraj is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL and Royal Free University. He is the Laparoscopic Urological Surgeon at the Whittington Hospital and mentor for the Caribbean Urology Association (CURA).

He completed his medical training in 1987 at the Glasgow Medical School. Subsequent to this, he trained in general surgery in the west of Scotland, where he also gained valuable experience in vascular and plastic surgery. He then undertook a research training fellowship in Leeds which culminated with the award of a PhD degree in the study of cancer biology at a molecular level. His involvement in this research area lead to the extensive publication of several studies alongside multiple presentations at various conferences and courses.

Mr Maraj strongly beieves in the value of research and innovation in the medical field. This is demonstarted by a close research association with Professor James Malone-Lee in the assessment and management of lower urinary tract disorders. Several papers have been published by him regarding the use of anti-wrinkle injections for bladder complaints. He research work is also associated with the Royal Free Hospital on topics such as nanotechnology and prostate cancer.

This extensive involvement in research along with the desire to constantly refresh his knowledge and skills drives him to offer the best treatment option individually tailored to suit the patient’s needs.

Mr Maraj enjoys tennis, cricket, jogging and swimming. He builds his own radio-controlled vehicles and also enjoys reading about the history of ancient and lost civilisations.
