Mr Andrew Baxter has been a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2002. He also has a private practice at BMI Thornbury and Claremont Hospital. Mr Baxter specialises in the treatment of menstrual disorders including heavy, painful or irregular periods, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts, and fibroids. He is an expert in minimal access surgery (keyhole surgery) and is skilled in advanced hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery. Mr Baxter has a particular interest in endometriosis and is the Lead for the Sheffield Endometriosis Centre where he deals with the most serious cases of the disease. He also performs out-patient diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy which allows for the treatment of heavy periods, polyps and fibroids without the need for anaesthetic.
Mr Baxter gained his medical qualification from the University of Manchester in 1989 before completing advanced training in minimal access surgery and developing an interest in endometriosis and period problems. He has previously held positions on the Board of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy and has also worked as an advisor for NICE. He is currently an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield and assists with training junior doctors in advanced laparoscopy.
