Andrew Adamson is an experienced and respected Urologist in NHS and private practice in Winchester, Chandlers Ford and Southampton.
He practices at The Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Southampton teaching Hospitals with private rooms at Sarum Road and Wessex Nuffield Hospitals, offering a wide range of treatments for urological disease with access to rapid high-quality diagnostics.
Having graduated from Bart’s and trained to registrar level in General surgery, his higher training in urology was completed at St Mary’s Hospital London, Eastbourne District General and finally at Kings College Hospital London. During his training, Andrew was active in clinical and basic science research and was awarded an MS in Surgery for work looking into the interaction of the coagulation system and prostate cancer, with a view to detecting novel markers able to predict the biological potential of cancer cells at diagnosis. This work took him to the US where he worked at the University of Notre Dame Indiana and was recognised by the award of the prestigious Association of Surgeons in Training Gold medal. This interest in clinical research has continued and in all, Andrew has more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
He has widely published in the peer-reviewed literature and prides himself in giving balanced, evidence-based advice. He feels this very important given the ever-increasing portfolio of treatments for various urological conditions, many of which have limited evidence base. He is regularly consulted by colleagues.
Since his appointment in Winchester as a general urologist Andrew has further developed his interest in Uro-oncology and laparoscopy, the latter skill being aided by being awarded a valued Preceptorship at the Cleveland Clinic, America. He has also spent time at the Mayo Clinic Rochester USA, Northwest memorial Hospital Chicago, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and Mansoura Hospital on the Nile delta, Egypt. This experience allowed him to offer minimally invasive surgery to more patients with varied urological pathology. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery for adrenal disease, for which he has a regional practice, laparoscopic renal surgery and he founded the laparoscopic prostatectomy service across the Winchester/Southampton axis. He also established the laser stone and laser prostatectomy service at Winchester.
When not working he enjoys watching rugby (an ever-optimistic Scotland supporter), adventure motorcycling and the company of family and friends.

Although due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I had to have my consultation with Mr. Adamson over the telephone, he came across as warm and compassionate. He fully understood my predicament in having a nasty UTI which could allegedly only be treated with Ciprofloxacin which I had had a serious reaction to last year, leaving me bed bound with muscle wastage, joint pain, weight loss and exhaustion. This was in marked contrast to my previous way of life where I walked my dog at least five miles each day, Mr. Adamson came up with several suggestions to assist with ridding my urine of pseudonomas and thankfully I have been symptom free for several days. He fully understood how painful UTIs can be and how I wished to avoid IV treatment given the current situation with hospitals - both private and NHS - needing beds. He also explained the problems with not treating UTIs successfully and the risks with the various types of bacteria. He did this in a very professional manner, being both gentle and informative, not wishing to make light of the situation but ensuring any questions I asked were fully answered.
I have been delighted with the care from Mr Adamson. Extremely experienced and he put me at ease right from the beginning and explained everything step by step so I knew what to expect. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Finding out I had cancer for the second time was terrifying. Mr Adamson was always supportive & reassuring, nothing was too much trouble. The team were attentive & caring at all times. Due to the size of my tumour I was advised that I would probably need to have open surgery, however Mr Adamson’s brilliance & knowledge in keyhole surgery saved me from this, for which I will be eternally grateful to say the least, he saved my life!

I have been seeing Mr Adamson on and off for the best part of 15 years. I have had nothing but exemplary service from him in all that time
Mr Adamson has treated me for prostate cancer for the last five years. My treatment has included surgery and radiotherapy. He has been with me every step of the way. He gives me straight answers to my questions and has always been positive which is a massive help to my mental state. He is a rock for me. I’m privileged to have such an ally by my side.

I have received excellent care from Mr Adamson and his team from pre op to after care.
He has looked after me for over two years with great care. He has always taken time to explain every thing to me and has always listened to my concerns. His team at Sarum Road hospital are friendly and most efficient. I recommend him most highly
Very pleased with Mr Adamson’s consultation and procedural expertise. He is very easy to talk to and explains what is going on in clear and simple terms with hand drawn diagrams to illustrate. A very freindly and warm demeanour which is just what is required with the delicate nature of urology matters! Would heartily recommend, indeed have already done so to my son. Thank you very much Andrew.
Mr Adamson was sincere, professional and friendly throughout my consultation and my subsequent procedure and I can only say a big thank you for the change in the quality of life that he has given me. I would recommend Mr. Adamson to any friend in need of his services.
I owe Mr Andrew Adamson much for his professionalism and personal care over a number of years and, more recent, for the successful result of my TURP operation.
Very professional and to the point, you feel your in good hands being given the treatment one needs. Nothing more or less. Just what it should be.
I had several issues which required specialist surgery and a procedure. Mr Adamson from the very beginning gave me confidence in knowing that I had chosen a professional in his field of expertise. He has a calming nature and thoroughly explained the surgery in a manner which was easily understood. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Adamson to anyone who requires an expert in the field of Urology. He changed my life.
