About Mr Tahir Mahmud
Mr Tahir Mahmud is an expert Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery based in Cheshire, and Manchester UK. His aim is to deliver consistently outstanding results for his patients. After graduating from University College London Medical School in 2000 he went on to complete his Orthopaedic training in London at varied centres of excellence including; St Mary's Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He later went on to complete his specialist fellowship training in sports knee injury based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London. Upon completion of his training he was selected by the prestigious University of Western Ontario, Canada to partake in a year long fellowship in complex knee and hip joint replacement surgery. Mr Mahmud is driven to consistently achieve outstanding clinical results for his patients, and has a wealth of training and experience which allows him to achieve this.
Mr Mahmud is a super specialised Consultant knee surgeon and one of the first surgeons to perform Robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery in the North West of England. He is a specialist in knee ligament surgery, meniscal repair, managing sports knee injuries; and treats professional and amateur sports personnel. He has an interest in treating younger patients with arthritis and performs cartilage regeneration procedures, high tibial osteotomy and partial knee replacement surgery. Mr Mahmud believes in utilising knee preservation techniques before considering total joint replacement surgery. He is highly skilled in both complex total knee replacement and minimally invasive total hip replacement surgeries.
In his personal time he has a passion for cycling, annually raising thousands of pounds for charity through various cycling expeditions.

I had ACL reconstruction using Hamstring graft + LET and lateral meniscectomy with Mr Mahmud and I could not recommend him enough. The whole process was made extremely easy with no stone left unturned. Initial consultation was extremely thorough where we discussed different options and ultimately decided on graft choice, day of surgery was very smooth + follow ups since have been great. Mr Mahmud is extremely friendly and knowledgable, I’m glad I chose to have surgery with him.

I had a total knee replacement with Mr Tahir Mahmud in May 2026 at the Spire Macclesfield. I would recommend this surgeon I’m completely satisfied with my treatment he did a great job.
Partial knee replacement. I was hesitant about having a total knee replacement and Mr Mahmud explained that I was a suitable candidate for a partial knee replacement and the advantages in my case. It seemed the perfect solution to my problems. He spent time explaining the recovery process which was accurate. I’m 12 weeks post surgery and getting on with my life. Very happy with the outcome and Mr Mahmud’s care.
Tahir Mahmud provided me with exemplary care throughout, taking time to listen to my aspirations and concerns and providing clear and concise information both before and after knee surgery.
