Mr Jafaru Abu is a consultant gynaecological surgeon and oncologist whose NHS practise is based at the Nottingham City Hospital Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals. His private practice is based at The Park Hospital Nottingham and The Nottingham Spire Hospital. He is a subspecialty trained gynaecological oncologist and has developed a major interest in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery as well as advanced stages of ovarian cancer operations.
He was instrumental in the introduction of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (keyhole hysterectomy) in the management of endometrial cancer (cancer of the womb) at the Nottingham University Hospitals and highly trained in performing complex gynaecological key-hole operations. Mr Abu trained at Leicester University Hospitals where he also completed subspecialty training in gynaecological oncology.
Because of his interest in minimally invasive surgery, he consolidated his laparoscopic training and skills at the Queensland Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Royal Brisbane Hospital for Women in Queensland, Australia. Mr Abu is one of the first Gynaecologists in the UK to perform this procedure and was interviewed in the Daily mail for this revolutionary new treatment which has significant patient benefits. Mr Abu is also committed to the Training of other consultants in advanced laparoscopic surgery in gynaecology.
He established a Masterclass Course in 2007 at the Nottingham University Hospital, UK, where other consultants are taught the skills of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) and other advanced laparoscopic techniques. The course has become popular nationally and internationally and is usually fully subscribed with a long waiting list. He also performs visitations to other hospitals where he acts as a mentor to consultant colleagues on advanced keyhole surgery in gynaecology especially total laparoscopic hysterectomy. Mr Abu also acts as an international faculty member on advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) operations.

Everything went very well. Mr Jafaru Abu was very experienced, kind, and knowledgeable. He made me feel at ease and explained everything clearly. I would definitely recommend him.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I’m truly glad you felt comfortable and well cared for.
I was diagnosed with stage 1b1 cervical cancer at 33 years old. Mr Abu performed a radical trachelectomy and cervical stitch to remove the cancer while preserving my fertility. The surgery was a complete success, and I have gone on to have three healthy children. I am now 11 years cancer free. The care, skill, and dedication of Mr Abu is second to none. I have him to thank for my life and my family, and I will be forever grateful. Mr Abu took the time to explain everything clearly and made me feel completely at ease throughout my treatment. Post cancer check-ups can be very stressful, however I found myself totally at ease, as I knew I was in such amazing hands. It was always so lovely to see Mr Abu and his team, who made every appointment feel reassuring and positive. I will always be incredibly grateful for the kindness, care and support he has shown me throughout my journey.

I recently had a hysteroscopy and biopsies under Mr Abu and I cant recommend him highly enough. From the moment I met Mr Abu I was put at ease. It was a very anxious time and Mr Abu was supportive and reassuring. He made me feel heard and his compassion and professionalism stood out. He explained everything throughly and helped me to feel comfortable. The aftercare was amazing and he even checked in on me on his day off. I highly recommend him and feel he is a credit to the medical profession. I have no hesitation in being under his care in the future.

I have been a surgical patient of Dr Abu in 2020 in Nottingham. I felt instantly relieved at the pre operative appointment as he was willing to listen and patient to explain a plan with me, and include my thoughts in these discussions. The surgery went smoothly for endometriotic cyst and ablation and I recovered well. Thanks to Mr Abu and his team for taking good care of me as a patient!

I was under the care of Mr Abu for 17 years following a diagnosis of cervical cancer at the age of 25. Throughout those years, he provided exceptional care, professionalism, and compassion. Even after he moved to Dubai, I reached out to him for advice about a new medical issue, and he was still there to help and support me. Mr Abu is an outstanding gynaecology specialist, but above all, he is a kind, patient, and genuinely considerate person. I will always be grateful to have had him as my doctor for so many years. I, along with my entire family, would recommend Mr Abu without hesitation, time and time again.

I will always be grateful to Mr Abu for the care and expertise he showed when treating my early-stage cervical cancer. He performed a trachelectomy, which not only treated my cancer but also preserved my fertility at the age of 36. Following the treatment, I was able to go on and conceive three children naturally. Throughout a very difficult time, Mr Abu was compassionate, reassuring, and professional. He was clear with his explanation and I felt very much listened to. His exceptional skill and care have had a profound impact on my life and my family's future. I cannot thank him enough.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful feedback. I am truly pleased to hear that you felt supported and well cared for during such a significant time in your life. Knowing that your treatment helped preserve your fertility and contributed to your family's future is especially rewarding. Your trust and appreciation mean a great deal to me, and I wish you and your family continued health and happiness.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in August 2022. I was introduced to Mr Abu later that year while undergoing chemotherapy. Mr Abu’s manner was very reassuring while also explaining the proposed surgery and potential outcomes clearly. He performed complex cytoreductive surgery with HIPEC in February 2023 and I am lucky enough to be ‘no evidence of disease’ since.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I still remember our conversations about the challenges and uncertainties that lay ahead, and I am delighted to hear that you have remained free of evidence of disease since your surgery. It was a privilege to be part of your care, and your kind words mean a great deal to me. I wish you continued good health and every happiness for the future.
