My meeting with Dr Cahill from the first time, through to the procedure and after, has been very assuring. His concern for my well being is very touching and a new experience totally. Declan is very professional and thorough in his approach.

I really appreciate Mr Cahill’s efforts to pioneer best practice keyhole prostatectomy using the latest Da Vinci X robot. It was comforting to know that this procedure was his core procedure, and performed regularly, a few times each week. The whole process felt like a well oiled machine.

I could not have asked for a better experience. Mr Cahill was always warm and friendly in our meetings and he clearly explained the options and the procedure. I enjoyed our interactions and we share a similar sense of humour.

Good explanations and good follow up. Only slight area of weakness was in explanation of rehabilitation. But helpful with chasing GP prescriptions once we sort that area.

In that well trodden phrase Mr. Cahill does what it says on the tin. Clear and precise non-medical terminology when explaining the illness and the range of possible outcomes. If undergoing an elective procedure my experience matches what he said was most likely and I when have no qualms having Mr. Cahill for any further procedures. I find his practice of contacting you in what must be his own time and affecting his work life balance outstanding as he leaves no stone unturned in your understanding and preparation.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been referred to Declan and have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful person to anyone. From the first time I met him he was friendly and put me at ease with his cheerful demeanour and interest in my concerns, thoughts and wishes. Over a period of 5 years, from early-stage observation, monitoring, tests, discussions about alternative procedures and a very successful operations I could not have been in better hands. His skill in the operating theatre is such that I had very little post operative pain and within 12 weeks I was not suffering from incontinence. Declan does truly care about his patients both before and after the operation and I cannot praise him and his abilities high enough.

Whilst a radical prostatectmy is a routine procedure for the medical team, it is a unique and daunting procedure for the patient. I was informed of options and implications of the potential treatment / operation throughout and given many opportunities to ask questions to allay concerns. Mr Cahill even called me on the Sunday before the operation on Monday to check all was okay and I had no last minute questions. The operation went fine and I am pleased to say I incurred minimal impact / side effects from the operation; short and long term.

Declan is a rare breed of doctor. Great bedside manner who gives you the confidence that he knows whats best for you and that he will look after you whilst you are in his care. As someone who did not want to know too much about the operation he gave me enough information to tell me the process. Actually rang me the night before I travelled upto London for the operation to see how I was feeling and told me not to worry.

I can recommend Declan without hesitation. From my first consultation he put me at ease by clearly explaining my predicament and the options open to me. Subsequent to me opting for a radical prostatectomy, I felt he went the extra mile to ensure I received the best possible care including referring me for further scans to isolate the issue as far as possible. On the evening before my operation he took the trouble to telephone me to provide reassurance and he then visited me soon after admission to hospital to run through the procedure in detail. His after-care has been equally exemplary, with his professional approach enhanced by a touch of humour.

Declan and the team were excellent in terms of communicating details of the prostatectomy and the aftercare has also been excellent. The only reason I have marked the overall experience down is that I had a major complication and needed to have a laparotomy two weeks after the op to free my intestine which had become trapped and blocked. I was impressed how quickly Declan reacted to my problems - a home visit and then arranged for me to be hospitalised. Unfortunate, but everything is fine now and undetectable PSA readings.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s important to know major complications happen. They are rare so one has to be vigilant to spot the problem early and then own the problem and sort it out. As in your case I needed the help of a brilliant colleague as the complication was outside my area of expertise. You were an amazing patient in working with us patiently as we got you through this. An extraordinarily rare complication and benign in its nature but needed the full invasiveness of an open operation to unkink that one loop of bowel. I delighted things are going so well now.
