I was pretty “bruised and battered” by the time I arrived at Mr Cahill’s door, having been given the devastating news, firstly that I had an aggressive, locally advanced prostate cancer and secondly that I would have to wait up to 6 months for surgery, at our local hospital, with the need for additional adjuvant hormone therapy in the meantime. My wife and I researched the options thoroughly and kept coming across the name, Declan Cahill. Not only did he have an impressive professional record but just as importantly, he was well regarded by colleagues and patients alike. We were delighted and relieved when Mr Cahill agreed to take me on. It felt as though a weight had been lifted off our shoulders. We were struck by his genuine commitment to his patients and his aim to make the process work as smoothly as possible. Declan Cahill’s easy, relaxed, but competent manner instilled in us a confidence and positivity we hadn’t felt for weeks. We had complete faith that Mr Cahill would do his best to carry out the delicate lifesaving procedures but would also try to maintain functions where possible. We were confident that he had a plan backed up by extensive experience of dealing with conditions like mine. It was heartening to know that I was in “good hands”, at last. We were impressed that Mr Cahill took time to phone us personally, (me the evening before and my wife several times on the day of the operation), to reassure us and to keep us updated. He gave us plenty of time to ask questions without feeling pressurised by time constraints. We felt at all times that he had our best interests at heart. Travelling to the Royal Marsden from our home in Birmingham presented added complications during the current pandemic but it was worth all the time and effort to know that I was getting the highest level of treatment. I am still at an early stage of treatment but I am so pleased that we made the decision. Mr Cahill is not only a highly proficient and skilled surgeon he is an exceptionally caring and kind human being. We couldn’t have asked for more.

From the first contact I had with Declan Cahill to discuss my prostrate cancer, I felt, for the first time since my diagnosis a sense of calmness come over me. Declan explained in language that I could understand, after analysing the myriad of test results in front of him, how he would proceed to achieve the best possible outcome for me. His confidence, reassurance and positivity convinced me I was in the best of hands and nothing about my treatment has detracted from that opinion. Post op now and still a way to go, but everything is going well, I rest assured by Declan that he is always contactable for any concerns, no matter how big or small. Overall the treatment I have received from Declan has been outstanding, and I certainly have no regrets putting myself under his care.

Mr Cahill was exceptionally approachable and considerate at every stage. He thoroughly explained different options and responded fully to my questions. Consultation was unhurried and friendly. I especially appreciated the personal phone call on the evening before the operation. He gave me a sense of confidence and trust.

Being diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 66 was one of the, if not the, most anxious times of my life. Picking the right type of procedure among the myriad that exist, and then the right consultant to perform the procedure, was not easy. I have to say my choice of Mr Declan Cahill was the right choice. In my initial consultation with him, he made me feel very comfortable with taking the surgical approach for my cancer. He also made me comfortable with the consultants I had narrowed my choice down to, Mr Ben Eddy and himself. I felt no pressure to pick him over Ben. My decision to have Declan perform the procedure was heartily supported by both the surgeon that had diagnosed my cancer and Mr Eddy as well. Declan is a pioneer in retzius sparing prostatectomy and I whole heartedly recommend him and his team to anyone contemplating a radical prostatectomy. He and his team made me feel like much more than just a patient. They made me feel like a valued friend.

Declan was great from first consultation and at every stage after. He kept things light while being straight forward about what was going to happen. infectiously confident and I always felt he couldn't wait to give me good news.

Mr Cahill was first class from start to finish. From my first consultation (done virtually on Zoom without issue) to calling me the night before my operation (full prostatectomy) to check in and calm my nerves to the day itself (including calling my wife personally after the op) - all done with great empathy. Robotic prostatectomy successful due to Mr Cahill's skill where the large volume of previous similar operations was a key reason for my choice of surgeon. Highly recommended.

Mr Cahill is an outstanding urologist. When I was referred to him with newly diagnosed prostate cancer I was seen very promptly. I was understandably apprehensive, however I found him to be most professional, extremely approachable and reassuring and I felt fully informed and confident about the care I was going to receive from him. He subsequently performed a robotic radical prostatectomy and my recovery has been extremely rapid, all thanks to his skill. His aftercare has continued to the same excellent standard. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others suffering from the same condition.

The treatment that I received from Declan Cahill for the removal of my cancerous prostate was, as far as I can tell, not previously having received such treatment, exemplary. Both before and after the operation Mr Cahill visited me on the ward to ensure that I was fully informed about what was happening to me, something I had not expected to happen. I had only expected to see one of Mr Cahill’s team. This approach helped me through the process and greatly reduced my anxiety levels.

Declan Cahill is undoubtedly highly skilled and professional in his field, and yet makes the patient feel as if he is interacting with a long time friend. This is invaluable to anyone seeking his opinion/treatment at a very anxious time. Everything is handled with great speed, reassurance and skill. In my case, further to the results of the biopsy and at Declan's recommendation, I shall be consulting other professionals about various possible treatments. In case, I feel the best course is RP, I would not hesitate for a moment to come back to him. All round a great professional and a really nice guy.

Dr Cahill is a professional to the core in terms of his presurgery and post surgery protocols. He’s make the treatment seems stress free and painless. He’s constant reassurances and knowledge stands him out as an outstanding surgeon. It was a pleasure meeting him.
