Mr Declan Cahill

Declan Cahill is a wonderful doctor. His skills as a surgeon were exceptional. My experience of the radical prostatectomy and the care in hospital was very good. I have had an exceptionally easy time with possible after effects on continence and erectile dysfunction, which is down to Declan's surgical skills. As a person he was fantastic to deal with - always available, positive and encouraging when I was feeling anxious and uncertain and, after the operation, concerned with every last detail to ensure the best possible outcomes for me, my recovery and my lifestyle. Three months after the operation I am happy and in excellent all round health. I could not recommend him more highly as a surgeon and for his kindness and thoroughness.

I could not have asked for anything more in terms of professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail. Everything was clearly explained and I will forever be grateful to Declan for guiding me through this difficult and stressful situation.

I found him approachable and explained matters in a clear and concise manner and unlike many in the medical field actually set out in a clear and transparent fashion. I cannot speak highly enough of Declan Cahill. He was most informative from day one, explaining each step very clearly. His track record and manner gave me great confidence in his ability and he made me almost relaxed at the thought of the surgery that lay ahead. He has been in regular contact from the beginning through to after surgery care, giving me lots of very valuable advice. I would recommend him to anyone who had the same condition as myself, in fact I often praise him when friends/colleagues ask me about my procedure.

Declan Cahill could not have been more caring and helpful. I had a very stressful experience, first contacting Covid and then having low platelet problems that meant a total of three potential prostrate removal ops were cancelled. Declan was there all the way. He called my wife the day before my fourth time lucky operation and then called again after the operation to reassure her all had gone well. She secretly calls him Darling Declan...because of his outstanding service.

Excellent experience. He was highly recommended by several Consultants. From start to finish his care has been exemplary and I am very happy with how things are following my robotic prostatectomy.

As a healthcare professional myself, I knew a little about my condition and what I was going to need to go through. Declan completely understood this and aimed the information at exactly the right level for me. He spent a great deal of time discussing the operation with me and even rang me to see how I was coping with all the information that I had received. He rang my wife as I came out of theatre to update her. I had complete confidence in him from the moment I met him. He handled my anxiety very well, providing constant reassurance in his response to my multiple questions. He succeeded in getting me to slow down during the recovery period. I'm in a much better place thanks to his skill, patience and expertise. He is a highly skilled surgeon with a very pleasant manner. I am so lucky to have found him.

Clearly one of the best in his field for pelvic cancer surgery. Quick and precise diagnosis. He is punctual and to the point. All treatment options presented and explained, not just surgery (his specialist field) offered. All possible side effects covered in detail and solutions offered. I chose surgery. Reassuring pre-op. bedside manner. Superb post op. care, with personal visits in recovery after the op. and a visit the day after. Followed-up by daily phone calls to monitor initial progress and 48 hour emails further down the healing line. I had an excellent outcome from my operation with little to no side effects as predicted by Mr. Cahill in his pre-op. assessment. I would highly recommend him.

Mr Cahill was very friendly but also informative and clear on what needed to be done. We felt that he understood our fears and concerns and considered what was best for me as a person. I initially contacted Mr Cahill for a second opinion and instantly felt more comfortable than with previous consultants. Communication was always prompt and I could always contact Mr Cahill by email to ask any questions. My operation was on a Saturday and Mr Cahill called me the day before and also called my wife straight after the operation, he also called me on the Saturday after the operation and popped in to see me in hospital on the Sunday. The overall team supporting Mr Cahill are also excellent. I felt confident with the operation and if I had friends requiring a similar operation I would strongly recommend and push them to contact Mr Cahill. I am now 8 weeks post operation and confident that I made the right decision.

There is no doubt that Declan Cahill is a surgeon at the top of his game. He clearly is a master at Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy and I had practically no discomfort after my operation and was fortunate enough to have full urinary continence as soon as my catheter was removed - although of course this can never be guaranteed. More than this though he is 100% approachable- no question is too daft! The support given, both before and after the operation, was exceptional, I especially appreciated the phone call straight after the operation to my anxious wife. At no time did it feel like a ‘tick box’ exercise - I felt that Mr. Cahill and his gifted team ( special mention for Nurse Consultant Netty Kinsella, the Urology Nurses at LBH, and Secretary Julie ) all genuinely care for their patients - you could ask no more.
