Miss Parveen Abedin is a Consultant at Birmingham Women's hospital and the Unit lead for Gynaecological Cancers. After graduating, Miss Abedin completed her postgraduate training in Birmingham in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, along with further training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at training centres across the UK. She has also accepted a travelling fellowship in the US to learn robotic surgery. Miss Abedin specializes in diagnosing and treating gynaecological cancers and is an expert in laparoscopic surgery, with experience in removing ovarian cysts, keyhole hysterectomies, and treatment of endometriosis. Her main interests are in menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, endometriosis, and gynaecological cancers. As well as her NHS work, Miss Abedin offers a private practice based at Edgbaston and Priory Hospitals and Spire Little Aston Hospital in Birmingham where she can also see NHS patients via the “choose and book service”.
Alongside her clinical work, Miss Abedin has contributed to much medical research, acting as a supervisor for multiple research studies and the local PI for the RoCKets study, studying the testing of ovarian cancer. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and has also written a book on the MRCOG examination. Furthermore, Miss Abedin is a senior clinical examiner at Birmingham University, and also examines for the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and teaches courses for the MRCOG.
