Miss Elaine Scott is an experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, who was appointed to her Consultant post at the Royal Free, a well-known London teaching hospital, in 2000.
Her interest is Obstetrics (pregnancy care including delivery), including high-risk pregnancy, having undertaken research into the causes of preterm delivery (leading to the award of her MD).
Miss Scott chose to leave the NHS in 2017 in order to focus on her private practice, which she undertakes at the Portland Hospital. Her aim in her practice of both Obstetrics and Gynaecology is to provide high quality, individualised care for all patients. She tries to ensure that every woman, whom she cares for, has a full and clear understanding of her case, informed by evidence-based medicine. She believes that it is only by doing this, that each woman can make an informed decision about her care, in partnership with Miss Scott.
Miss Scott understands that the most important outcomes for pregnant women are the safe delivery of a healthy baby and, of course, a healthy mother. She believes that good communication, a good rapport and informed choice are crucial, if women (and their partners) are to feel confident about their care. This is particularly important during pregnancy and delivery. In her private practice, many of her pregnant patients are normal, healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies. Her extensive obstetric and labour ward experience enables her to identify any potential problems early, so that she can manage them safely, whilst at the same time recognising that pregnancy and delivery are natural processes, in which normality should be promoted whenever appropriate and safe. She is happy to offer pre-pregnancy advice to any women who wish or need it.
Miss Scott also undertakes a general gynaecological practice and deals with a variety of problems including menstrual irregularities, miscarriages including recurrent miscarriage, pre-conception advice, hormonal disturbances, contraception, hormone replacement therapy and the menopause. She strongly believes in preventative healthcare and is happy to do well-women check-ups, annual health checks including cervical smears and screening for sexually transmitted disease.
Her 360-degree feedback (anonymised feedback collected from members of the team eg nurses, fellow doctors in her specialty, GP's, theatre staff and patients, as part of the appraisal process) shows that she is well respected by and works well with her multi-disciplinary colleagues and that her patients have been extremely happy with their care. The grades given by her colleagues have declared her to be well above both the national and the speciality average for all of the criteria about her clinical practice.
Whilst at the Royal Free, she undertook many senior leadership roles including Labour ward lead, Clinical governance lead, Risk management lead and Obstetric department lead. In addition, she was a College Tutor and responsible for overseeing the training of the junior doctors within the department. Miss Scott instigated and oversaw the development of a new delivery suite with home-from-home facilities and a midwifery-led unit. In addition, she also set up the first specialist joint renal/obstetric clinic at the Trust, in order to better care for pregnant women with transplants and renal problems. She was awarded the Fellowship to the RCOG for her work in 2006.
Miss Scott trained and qualified as a doctor at University College Hospital. Her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology included working in a variety of other teachings/University hospitals, including the Chelsea and Westminster, St Marys Hospital, Queen Charlotte's hospital in London, as well as Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Her research for her MD thesis was carried out at University College Hospital.

Great experience overall! I had been going through the NHS previously and had been given constantly conflicting information leaving me confused, frustrated, and frankly quite anxious. I visited Miss Scott who he already viewed all the documents I’d sent over and then spent as much time as needed to completely cover any questions I had. Her advice completely changed my day to day well-being and I could not recommend her enough!

I could not recommend more Miss Scott more highly. Throughout my entire pregnancy, Miss Scott has looked after me comprehensively and with compassion - and perhaps most importantly, the same was true on big day itself! I wouldn’t hesitate to pass on her details to family and friends. I felt confident and positive when having my baby that we were both in the safest hands possible - what more can you ask for?

Mr Pranav Pandya
My colleague Miss Elaine Scott is a respected clinician, listens to her patients concerns and is an excellent communicator. Elaine offers very patient focused care and has a strong attention to detail. I would strongly recommend her.
I have worked with Elaine for many years and she is top class obstetrician. I refer patients to her regularly and she refers patients who need a private GP to me. I, nor any patient I have met, have been disappointed by her detailed, patient focussed level of care and kindness. She is top class.
