Dr Brinda Christopher, Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant, has a special interest in football medicine. She is currently working within the Regional Rehabilitation Unit for the Ministry of Defence in Colchester, overseeing the diagnosis and rehabilitation of injured servicemen and women.

Dr Brinda Christopher was awarded an intercalated Sports Science Degree from Loughborough University in 2006 and then went on to qualify from University College Medical School in 2007. She later undertook general medical training in London and then subspecialty training in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.

Shortly after qualifying as a Consultant, she became a Fellow at the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. She was then appointed as President of the Royal Society of Medicine Sports and Exercise Medicine Section. During this period, she also undertook an additional Fellowship abroad at Stanford University. She has been closely involved in the development of SVEXA (a Silicon Valley-based, multidisciplinary lead sports science data analytics start-up). SVEXA aims to better utilize individual sports data to optimize performance and recovery for high-performing athletes, with a long-term goal of offering these services to individuals once robust sport-specific algorithms have been established.

Dr Brinda Christopher’s main interest is football medicine. She began working at Wimbledon AFC, followed by Norwich FC, and then finally Tottenham Hotspur FC. Additionally, she has worked for several women’s teams such as England’s Women’s Football and the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies. She has also worked with disabled sports such as the NEC Championship Disabled International Tennis and the GB Disabled Shooting. She is also very proficient in working with adolescent sports medicine, working for the UK Athletics Junior Championships, the Sainsbury’s School Games, and the Football Academy at Spurs.

Dr Brinda Christopher is very passionate about Exercise Medicine and strongly advocates for it, leading a working group for the UK Department of Health and Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, with a focus on exercise medicine prescription for chronic diseases. Dr Christopher is professional and respectful in the role she fulfils, all too often doctors are aloof and dismissive, I appreciate the openness and the direct approach yet remaining emphatic to my needs as an engineer that needs to know more than the average patient.

Positive experience overall, some of the medical explanations I found needed to have them explained in greater detail but also in layman's terms as some of the information too medical for me to process

I found Dr. Brinda Christopher to be an excellent listener who took the care to fully understand the issues before agreeing with me the best way forward in treating my injury. I felt that my contribution was respected and welcomed and that Dr. Christopher’s approach was very reassuring. I felt confident that together, we were on track to resolve my severe back pain and prevent a recurrence. I could not have asked for more.

I have been struggling with my condition. For a while and at the point of seeing Dr Christopher I was particularly low and didn’t think I would ever overcome this. The explanation I got from her was very clear, reassuring and the diagnosis was extremely helpful To help me understand. The ongoing treatment is also great

I came to see Dr. Christopher for a very old ankle injury at a point when I thought surgery was my only option. Dr. Christopher was excellent at explaining I had other options and recommended a physio, with whom I worked and I was able to greatly increase my ankle strength and stability. I don't believe I need surgery anymore and am very grateful to Dr. Christopher and team for realising there are other treatment options.
