Dr Brinda Christopher, Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant, has a special interest in football medicine. She is currently working within the Regional Rehabilitation Unit for the Ministry of Defence in Colchester, overseeing the diagnosis and rehabilitation of injured servicemen and women.
Dr Brinda Christopher was awarded an intercalated Sports Science Degree from Loughborough University in 2006 and then went on to qualify from University College Medical School in 2007. She later undertook general medical training in London and then subspecialty training in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary's Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.
Shortly after qualifying as a Consultant, she became a Fellow at the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. She was then appointed as President of the Royal Society of Medicine Sports and Exercise Medicine Section. During this period, she also undertook an additional Fellowship abroad at Stanford University. She also engaged in medical teaching, she taught undergraduates and Stanford Physicians on clinical musculoskeletal examination and remains a Faculty Member of the Annual Stanford 25 Symposium.
Dr Brinda Christopher returned to the UK to work at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club as the Academy Doctor and later became responsible for the care of the 1st Team. She has been closely involved in the development of SVEXA (a Silicon Valley-based, multidisciplinary lead sports science data analytics start-up). SVEXA aims to better utilize individual sports data to optimize performance and recovery for high-performing athletes, with a long-term goal of offering these services to individuals once robust sport-specific algorithms have been established.
Dr Brinda Christopher's main interest is football medicine. She began working at Wimbledon AFC, followed by Norwich FC, and then finally Tottenham Hotspur FC. Additionally, she has worked for several women's teams such as England's Women's Football and the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies. She has also worked with disabled sports such as the NEC Championship Disabled International Tennis and the GB Disabled Shooting. She is also very proficient in working with adolescent sports medicine, working for the UK Athletics Junior Championships, the Sainsbury's School Games, and the Football Academy at Spurs.
Dr Brinda Christopher is very passionate about Exercise Medicine and strongly advocates for it, leading a working group for the UK Department of Health and Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, with a focus on exercise medicine prescription for chronic diseases. This work has resulted in the development of a web-based prescription tool ‘Moving Medicine.
