About
I was brought up in Wimbledon in South West London and educated in a mix of state and independent schools. At 18, I left home and took a year out working initially as a porter at the Atkinson Morley Hospital in Wimbledon, then 4 months teaching English to children in Kathmandu, Nepal followed by 4 months of travelling around the world.
Having successfully secured a place at St John’s College Cambridge, I then spent my next 6 years in Cambridge where I successfully achieve a 2:1 in medicine and subsequently qualified as a doctor at Addenbrookes Medical School. During my time in Cambridge I rowed for Lady Margaret Boat Club, rowing in the first crew including at 2 Henley Regattas. I stayed on in the Cambridge area to complete my preregistration “house jobs” before moving down to Southampton to complete 2 years of general medical training as a Senior House Officer. I experienced a number of medical specialities before realising my ambition to be a Cardiologist and from there headed back to Cambridge and Papworth Hospital to undertake research into chronic angina and the technique of laser revascularisation of the heart. From here, I headed
North to Manchester where I have lived ever since, completing 6 years of specialist training and subsequently securing my NHS Consultant post at Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust.
As a new Consultant I quickly became Cardiac Catheter Lab Clinical Lead, and took on the task of fully equiping our catheter laboratory with all the the necessary equipment to investigate and treat all patients requiring coronary artery angiography and stenting. This includes the procurement of Pressure wire (FFR) assessment, and coronary imaging techniques of Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). I was the sole operator qualified for the use of rotational atherectomy (coronary rotablation) to treat heavily calcified coronary arteries and remain one of the highest volume operators in Manchester. I also started the local CTO programme, working with local proctors to teach the highly specialised techniques required to re-open completely blocked coronary arteries - tradionally only treated by open heart surgery.
As well as treating coronary artery disease, I also am happy to investigate and treat all other cardiology complaints. Privately and also through my NHS practice I see all types of cardiology conditions, and in particular breathless and heart failure, palpitations including SVTs and atrial fibrillation, hypertension and cholesterol management.
Currently I am Interim Medical Director for Bury Care Organisation but enjoy my clinical work and interactions with patients so continue to participate in all aspects of Cardiology both on the NHS and through private practise. I enjoy practising what I believe to be the highest quality, patient centric clinical care.
Outside of work, I am a fanatical cyclist, enjoy snowboarding, sailing, windsurfing and the great outdoors.
