About

Dr. Lockie is Cardiologist based in London, UK.

He went to University College School in North London and trained in medicine at Edinburgh University. During this time he undertook an intercalated degree in psychology gaining First Class honours. Following graduation, he worked at the Old Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh before moving to London for his specialist cardiology training at St Thomas'. With an interest in ischaemic heart disease and re-perfusion he undertook a PhD at KCL, winning the Young Investigator Prize at SCMR in the United States. He specializes in advanced stenting and percutaeous coronary interventions (PCI) and was awarded a Fellowship from the European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (EAPCI) to spend a year at the prestigious Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. He then completed his PCI training back at St. Thomas’ in London. In 2013 he was appointed as a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust. In 2019 Dr Lockie was appointed Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Institute of Cardiovascular Science at UCL.

Dr Lockie specialises in complex PCI and stenting procedures for blocked coronary arteries including primary angioplasty for acute heart attacks, intravascular imaging and coronary physiology. He is the clinical lead for coronary revascularisation at the Royal Free Heart Attack Centre. He also has responsibility in education and maintaining the institutional databases for heart attacks and PCI. He sits on the national advisory board for the British Cardiac Society, representing the North Central London region.

He regularly teaches and lectures at conferences and seminars, including the international faculty of the European Society of Cardiology. He is also local principle investigator for several large, multi-centre clinical trials examining: novel stents; PCI in heart failure; PCI in cardiogenic shock; renal protection during coronary interventions; coronary flow and pressure measurements during PCI. In recognition of academic and clinical excellence Dr Lockie was recently elected a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC).

Dr. Lockie believes in a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the treatment of patients with cardiac problems. This involves utilising the latest and most sophisticated investigations and treatments, but also always listening to the patient and carefully discussing their clinical problems.  It is essential to ensure that the patient’s needs and concerns are at the centre of any management plan.

Very re-assuring, very helpful, and very clear on the symptoms I was experiencing. I feel much better now and have stopped worrying! I really appreciated that I was seen so quickly, that a full set of tests were carried out and that he made time to see me so quickly once he knew that I only had a limited time before I started a new job.

Dr Lockie has been my Cardiology for sometime now having been referred to him after I had a TIA and shortness of breath, and I had great concerns due to my family history. I needn't have worried, he alleviates my fears by explaining everything to me, however busy he always makes times to listen, and I trust his judgement and diagnosis completely. He is dedicated and a true gentleman, but most of all I feel safe in the knowledge that he is there should I need his help and advice. What more can anyone ask ?

Dr Lockie was thorough and reassuring and made my mother feel very at ease. English isn't her first language and he took time to explain complex cardiac procedures in a simple way in order for my mother to understand her options and make her own choices. We felt supported throughout her medical journey and my mother is less anxious now knowing that Dr Lockie is available should she feel unwell again.

My father has been seeing Dr Lockie since this summer when a CT scan demonstrated coronary artery disease. We were keen for an expert opinion on both the interventional and non-interventional options and Dr Lockie's profile made him an obvious choice of clinician. Dr Lockie's calm, confident and empathetic bedside manner has been reassuring throughout. He recommended a number of investigations that gave a much clearer picture of the disease and meant my father could make a more informed decision regarding angioplasty. He gave a recommendation but we felt no pressure to proceed. All investigations were organised promptly and when we needed some urgent advice regarding mediation he was quick to get in touch, reassure and see my father at short notice. As a relative I trusted his skill and decision making completely. My father proceeded with the angioplasty and had a very successful, comfortable procedure.

After an enormously stressful period of NHS care under other doctors, I was thrilled to eventually end up as a private patient of Dr. Lockie about 4 years ago. He sorted me out promptly, and tried a variety of medications until we found one with the least number of side effects. I have had scares and problems since then, and he has been extremely responsive and proactive each time I have seen him. He is sensitive and responsive to my sometimes-clouded emotional responses to my illnesses and treatments. He encourages me to modify my dosages within a certain range of values whenever I feel over- or under-medicated. I feel that he truly listens, truly cares, and is of course massively competent. He was there to sort out a cardiac problem during my chemotherapy two years ago, and is clearly very knowledgable about the bigger world of medicine beyond "just" cardiology. Dr Tim performed two procedures on my heart, both successful and stress-free. He is also a really nice guy. It is a privilege, and a luxury, to be his patient.

Dr Lockie is an excellent physician. He is very knowledgeable and highly skilled. He takes the time to explain - in simple, but by no means patronising, terms - the situation to the patient, as well as any alternatives/options. An important factor for us was that it felt that Dr Lockie sees (and treats) the person, not just the symptom. All in all myself and my family were very satisfied with the care he offered and would recommend him without hesitation.

I am in no position to "review" the work of this wonderful doctor, and it's peculiar to have been asked! That said, however, I'm delighted to say to anyone who'll listen that Dr Lockie has had a massively positive impact on my life. I have seen a great many doctors in recent years, alas, but Dr Tim is in the absolute top rank. He is enlightened, respectful, kind and very very perceptive. ~I cannot imagine being in better hands.

I don't really do on-line reviews but in Tim's case i'm going to make an exception. I went to see Tim with my Son who had been told that he needed to be referred immediately to a heart specialist. Tim went over and above in order to help and advise us on our Son's condition. He helped to speed up getting a Cardiac MRI scan done and was very quick and efficient in replying to emails that we sent him, when to be honest other specialists either wouldn't give you their email or would ask you to book an appointment. He really helped to calm the situation down and was very thorough, thoughtful, profession and efficient.
