Mr Raef Faris, Consultant Gynaecologist and Fertility Expert, currently works within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at the Hammersmith Hospital. He also sees patients privately at the Lister Hospital in London. He is highly experienced in all aspects of women’s health including endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), recurrent implantation failure, miscarriages, low ovarian reserve, and various forms of fertility preservation. He has a keen interest in surgical procedures relating to fertility including Hysteroscopic surgeries (Asherman’s syndrome, uterine adhesions, uterine septum, and cavity fibroids), laparoscopic surgeries (endometriosis, releasing adhesions, ovarian cysts, and hydrosalpinx), and myomectomies for the removal of fibroids.
Mr Faris began his medical education in Egypt, graduating from Cairo University in 1991, before moving to the UK to do specialist training in 1999. He graduated from Cairo University with an MSc in 1998 before his move to the UK. A year later in 1999, he was awarded the European Universities Diploma of Operative Gynaecological Endoscopies in France. His specialist training occurred at The Ipswich hospital and was completed at Nottingham University Hospitals. Following the completion of his training, he has since run a colposcopy clinic at Chelsea and St Mary’s Hospital Imperial College London and has worked as a Consultant for Guy and St Thomas’ Fertility unit for 1 year. He has since become an accredited laparoscopic surgeon by the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists and an accredited trainer in processes for assisted conception and pelvic ultrasound by the British Fertility Society. He is a trainer in colposcopy procedures and holds membership to The British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
Mr Faris is a very active member of the research community, with numerous publications in journals around the world in reproductive medicine. He is also involved in multi-centre clinical trials focusing on fertility and speaks of his findings at conferences and meetings around the globe. He is also actively engaged in medical education and fertility support networks.
Mr Faris is also one of the members of the Medical Advisory Committee for the Lister Hospital, which enables him to improve patient wellbeing through a comprehensive approach to health issues, using technical skills, scientific knowledge, and human understanding.Â
