I'm an award-winning general adult psychiatrist who works with adults. I am trained both in psychopharmacology (using medication) and in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), a type of psychotherapy (talking therapy). I am a Principal Clinical Research Fellow at University College London (UCL) where I lead a research group. In the NHS I work at the Traumatic Stress Clinic at St Pancras Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. I regularly lecture at UCL and I have been invited to lecture internationally. I teach students in medicine, psychology and the neurosciences, as well as doctors undertaking specialist post-graduate training in psychiatry.
I am particularly interested in treating depression, psychosis and schizoprenia spectrum disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) including Complex PTSD and dissociation, anxiety disorders and people who struggle with regulating their own emotions and maintaining stable relationships. I have an interest in neuropsychiatry. I am also interested in helping people who are neurodiverse, have difficulties with attention inlucluding ADHD and people who are on the autistic spectrum.
I have published over 100 articles in leading peer-reviewed journals including Nature, the Lancet Psychiatry, World Psychiatry and the British Medical Journal.
I undertook my medical degree at the University of Oxford, before working in London and the Channel Islands. As a junior doctor I worked as an air ambulance doctor - which I loved. I went on to train in psychiatry at Charing Cross Hospital and later became a Medical Research Council clinical research fellow at Hammersmith Hospital where I did a PhD in Clinical Medicine at Imperial College London. I am a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I have built up a wealth of experience in the NHS, including community mental health, acute in-patient psychiatry, treatment-resistant psychosis, severe mental illness, crisis resolution and helping people with personality disorder diagnoses. I have advanced training in enhanced cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) from the University of Oxford. I have a certificate in Psychopharmacology from the British Association for Psychopharmacology. I am an approved clinician under section 12 of the Mental Health Act.

the most charming and attentive doctor , I attempted to include Dr Losseff but it only allowed one choice!! ‘ phone wise the assistants are terrific but the “protective guards “ and all in the hospital should remember the tonic of a smile !! Doc B and Doc L worth every penny in their coffers

Since the first contact, I felt Dr Bloomfield, polite, and very professional. During my consultation, I felt comfortable, despite the hard subjects I needed to talk. And didn't feel uncomfortable or judged by the Dr at any moment, I just felt I was with the right professional.

I feel extremely at ease and am learning a huge amount. My life has changed drastically since I started my sessions.

My experience has been great. Would not have been doing so well had it not been for all his help.

Dr Michael Bloomfield is very understanding and patient. His approach at helping me solve my problems with anxiety greatly helped me. Dr Bloomfield taught me skills so that I would be able to handle anxiety myself in the future. He also was very patient, explaining the same concept multiple times in order for me to properly understand them. Dr Bloomfield's explanations are always very clear, especially thanks to the use of diagrams/drawings. My experience with Dr Michael Bloomfield was excellent.
