Dr Dakin trained in Respiratory and Critical Care medicine in London, gaining a research fellowship at the Royal
Brompton Hospital and an MD doctorate at Imperial College. He is also trained and experienced in Sleep Medicine, holding Somnologist accreditation with the European Sleep Research Society.
Initially appointed as a Consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital 15 years ago, he became Clinical Director of
Respiratory and Sleep Medicine before moving to the Royal Surrey in 2015 to be nearer home.
Dr Dakin has exceptionally wide experience within Respiratory Medicine, having managed various specialist clinics
including pulmonary infection, fibrosis / interstitial lung disease, home ventilatory support and Sleep Medicine.
He has co-authored a textbook investigation of breathlessness, "Making sense of Lung Function".
Much of Dr Dakin's current practice is dealing with persistent cough and shortness of breath, particularly asthma.
Dr Dakin has two children and is married to an Anaesthetist. At weekends he enjoys sailing a Laser dinghy (badly) in
Frensham, where he served a term as the Honorary General Secretary.
